  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

This thing is bad ace!! But I have a few Raptor operations questions.

I've been setting up my brand new Raptor. The image is awesome and a lot of the build ideas/tech are great as well. I have a few important questions though:

1. Is there a way to set in and out points on playback and is the loop feature enabled yet? I use that stuff constantly on set for clients.

2. Is there a version of Red Control that... doesn't allow control? Is there just Red Viewer?

3. Why does ISO selection on the touch screen go goofy sometimes? It acts like the Iris control on a manual lens where it only gives one (inaccurate) option and won't allow changes.

4. I'm using the new Micro v-mount batteries and am entertaining the idea of running 2 on 2 separate plates, one on the built in mount and one on a plate hanging off the side for powering wireless transmitter and follow focus, ALSO I used a D-tap to Lemo to plug into the power input of the camera so that I have hot swap capability (I still run my Epic and love that ability because of the side handle) anyway, the problem is that it will prioritize the Lemo connected battery instead of the one on the plate. Is there a way to tell it which power source to default to?

For #2: you can connect your Wi-Fi (on your phone, tablet, laptop) to the Raptor and then go to your web browser (safari, Firefox, IE, whatever), type in the IP address of your Raptor but add “/9090” and you will get a live feed of your camera without any type of camera control - just monitoring only.

Hope this helps!

Cool, does that work for Komodo as well? What do you do you set it to ad-hoc and just select the wifi on your laptop, type in the pass and the ip adress + the /9090 in safari and it plays?

Yes, that is the procedure to get that “live stream” feature going. I’ve used iPhones and iPads and it works pretty well. Obviously, there’s a bit of lag and its dependent on the signal strength. You *could* switch from ad-hoc to infrastructure to get a stronger / better signal but I haven’t personally tested that and it requires you to bring a router on-set, etc. so for the vast majority of my projects I just don’t have the time to set it up. I’d assume after the initial configuration (which you could do before arriving to set) it probably wouldn’t take long to get up and running.

As far as I know this works the same on Komodo as well. I’ve tested the ad-hoc mode on my Raptor but not on my Komodo…yet…but if you’ve used the RED Control App the process is almost identical except you use a browser instead of the app.

4. I ended up running an extra battery plate off the back. I'm super happy with it. I leave the 95wh micro on the camera at "all" times and have that battery's p-tap hooked up to a 4 way splitter. That goes to the wireless tx and focus. Then the plate behind that which is mounted on 15mm rails holds the wireless tx and another full or micro sized v-mount. That plate has a p-tap to Lemo cable that plugs into the body. So the back battery powers the camera and the micro powers the accessories AND it immediately starts powering the body whenever I remove the back battery. So now it's totally hot swappable and I don't have to disconnect p-taps or other cables whenever I switch batteries. At night I can just plug the camera into the wall and it charges the onboard micro.
