  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

This is "NOT" Good By...

I think when it comes to personal attacks, rudeness etc there should be instant life bans. I know we have a real name policy but that doesn't stop people from openly antagonizing fellow community members. I'm sure a big part of it is that this community spans the whole world and every level of user (professionals all the way to pixel peeper blog trolls) and I'm sure some users aren't afraid to be rude even when using their own name because they assume they will never meet the people they insult.

Just wanted to reach out and say that I have always appreciated your insight and honest opinions. You have been there from the beginning of the RED revolution and your experience is invaluable. What I am witnessing on the thread these days is not unique to this forum alone. It's unfortunately happening everywhere. I'm not sure if it's a generational thing, but it is disheartening. Most importantly is to take care of your health. Nothing else matters. Sometimes you just need to cut the limb off and move on. Don't let this forum define who you are. Indeed time does heal and can offer incredible insight. Happy New Year Ketch!
 
Ketch, this has been a fun, interesting ride. That first Reduser event seems like ages ago, but my reason for doing it was to put people face to face with each other, to bring the human element into play. Otherwise we are a bunch of avatars that must try our best to convey tone and emotion through the written word and it's not always easy.

For the most part, my experience on this forum has been positive. There have been some unfortunate threads that have gone down roads best left unexplored, but I think the positives outweigh the negatives.

I have given thought to starting a small, invite only forum that would supplement this one but my concern is time needed to do it. So little time these days. But I could see it being a very useful resource for experienced folks to exchange real world tips and techniques. For general cinematography there are already forums setup for professionals that have stringent policies in place. I'm thinking more along the lines of a specific group of people that would likely be able to keep things focused and positive and really benefit from each other.

Ketch, best of luck with projects. Keep us posted, when you can.
 
Ketch... you are a huge contributor here on REDuser. If someone is giving you shit, just let me know and I'll delete posts or ban them. Pretty easy to understand.

I think Ketch was being the bigger man by stepping back.

But it won't be the same without his boundless positivity :)

Ketch, Toia & Gunleik are the guys whose posts helped me see the value of the RED ecosystem... and their willingness to share thoughts/tests/ideas lead to a period of my own R&D before getting an Epic back in Feb.

In my opinion, the Forum isn't as it was (and I joined in 2010)... there seems to be a lot more bitchiness recently.
 
Thanks for everything you've done, Ketch. When we were first getting into RED, you were super communicative and very helpful in helping us select our kit. Just wanted to thank you and wish you all the best.

That sucks dude. I will always remember you as that guy who stuffed a bunch of Arri Master Primes in a single backpack like a champ. Ignore the haters.
 
Somehow, it is the unruleable format of this forum that gives it value, life and also makes it offensive to many.

There is always cml, creativecow and cinematography.com, (haven't been over there for a while though) and a number of other places with different attitudes from this.

Skin needs ro be thick at times. At times itbis good to remember that reduser is not neccesarily THE defining place on earth...

Ketch, don't let the assholes win. Stay. We are all better for it. It's like Neo leaving the Matrix, it doesn't make sense.
 
I don't blame you, this place is full of d*cks they don't deserve the knowledge and experience you have and are willing to share. Let them scan the internet for information and be "internet trained" with out you.

'm sorry to hear of the personal toll a couple of dickheads have had on your wellbeing. The world is full of great people and its also full of dickheads. Don't let the dickheads determine your life. You're a great man and you've got the support of a lot of other good men.

I didn't get attacked, but when I realized some crazy people can stay around this forum, then I decided not to hang around much here and shifted communicating on Facebook. Ketch, of course you know who that is. Many of my RED related friends think the same. I have seen email from someone that certain individuals see my posts and contact the people in the conversation to warn how wicked I am according to him. This exact individual has nerve to come up to me and offer me renting his camera if our cameras are all out to rentals. Then I though this is out of control.

Love RED and the people at RED, also many many people here in the community, but sadly, this is not the same place as used to be.

Obviously, people are jealous with your success, I think these forums are too transparent and also tricky at the same time. I've been happy with Facebook to keeping touch with the people I respect. Only Jim's present is missing there, so I come here for that.
