Would they not hurt just the same just as in a 3D rig, or no?

Still matching alexa or red with film is relatively easy if the exposure is some what within the range and proper color matching tools are used especially if it's viewed in low res on vimeo. So I do not find it so surprising. Still it's quite a cool little test.

Not sure how good the comparison is for REDusers (general consensus is that Arri creates a better, more filmic image directly out of the cam.) It also would have been nice to see what they looked like before post/correction/grade... To get an idea of how much things needed to be fixed/corrected in post to get them to match... THAT would be interesting.
