  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

This camera is too awesome. Image quality way too outstanding for price.

ZX81 not supported, you have to upgrade to Sinclair Spectrum.
Graeme announced that long ago.

Just so it's clear.

The Sinclair ZX Spectrum version requires the 48k model not the 16k.

Time to upgrade folks, another pain in the ar*e (a*s for readers from the US).

WTF? This camera is like 1 tenth the price of the competing camera and it works on a single chip with 35mm coverage so that we can mount an entire world of PL mount 35mm glass, That's way to many choices. Why couldn't you guys start with a 3 chip 2/3 inch camera and work your way up to the 35mm system?

Plus because you are reading Raw data off this low noise chip, I'm getting several times the dynamic range off this camera as off of my other video cameras. I'm trying to blow stuff out in the highlights but I need bigger lights.

Then I tried doing some massive selective color correction on the image and I can't achieve the boxy compression artifact look that has become my personal signature on everything I do in HD. Maybe Red could add a "boxy" mode so that I can get this look.

Plus there are too many pixels. I can't work if I can't see the individual pixels. How am I supposed to do my job.

I tried using this F950 as a boat anchor, but it just drags along the bottom of the ocean and won't catch on anything. Now its all oxidized and won't even turn on. It's too big for a paperweight and takes up my whole desk!

Please Red, make a camera that sucks so I can continue living in the past.

LOL :)

You have all missed the point!

You have all missed the point!

The worst situation is the poor film students who won't understand how tough it is to shoot on film because of all the broken cameras the school still uses.

They'll think they can just go out and shoot as much as they want and waste their time talking to actors about "motivation" and "emotional continuity" rather than checking the back focus and duct tape.

Pretty soon they'll be editing dailies on laptops and ignoring the studio perks of cold coffee and traffic jams getting to work.

That's my frustration with RED!

Yeah, but CF to audio cassette adapter is still not out.

You are frustrated? All I have to show for my $B investment is a stack of bills, employees that sit around all day long expecting shit to get done all by itself and bomb threats! This is NOT what I signed up for. All I ever really wanted to do was collect a ton of $1000 deposits and spend a few weeks in Fiji...

This is a nightmare of Epic proportions. I think I should sue you guys for making me finish this stupid project.

This IS the funniest thread evah! (pardon my southern accent)

ROTFLMAO

This is good...

And I KNEW IT!!! I knew that's why he did this. Fiji is nice this time of year I hear.

Hahahahahaha. :)

I'll send your wife and kids written apologies and tell them I'm sorry, but not until I'm holding my camera in my hands.

And they keep changing the build number, I can't keep track, what's all this build 16 nonsens.

why does this cam have to be so light?! i dont want to be asked to carry it around...i want it to be tethered to decks and digital villages and have tons of really expensive tapes i need to clone and backup.
I mean come on you guys have dropped the ball so far can't build 16 at least give me an in camera star wipe or youtube version output!?

What was that about recording in-camera? That would be really cool some day!
We have been using the following set-up:
AJA HD10AMA analog audio embedder
AJA HD10MD3 HD-SDI down-converter to create composite and line audio
Radio Shack RF Modulator to convert to coaxial (prefer ch. 3)
Record on JVC VHS deck.

The above is a bit cumbersome, but does give us audio and video together!
My PXL 2000 is more streamlined as the included 'game' selector was included in the box (as was a nice cube monitor that even works as a regular TV- hello RED?) and I didn't need all the fancy outboard gear.
With the price of VHS tapes today, the configuration is very economical, particularly for long-form work. Someday, we might look into this whole 'digital' tape thing if we feel comfortable that the tapes will last as long... Perhaps in a future build RED could include a decent coaxial output? Or even an S-VHS connection for professional gear? I think that's the least we could ask!

I don't know if anyone has noticed, but this so-called "professional" "camera" has no built-in-microphone, no option to burn the date into the picture, not even any dial-in really cool digital effects. No funky sounds when pushing buttons. And don't even get me started on the digital zoom...

And then the viewfinder. C'mon. It shows more than the camera records? I mean WTF; not a single other videocam does that.

Then there is no hypergain function. Yes, yes, you can do Iso 3200 on build 16, they respond. But there isn't any freakin' grain. So, yet another scam.

Before you enter the market, please do at least some research as to what the competition is doing. is just so obvious that these Red guys have never before built a camera.

I am sorry... but in order for this camera to be feature complete I need full "Wedge In" capabilities. I need this for my shoot next week in Fiji, plus the clients are kinda expecting it since I have been praising it without ever using it before... Jim, Jarred? Can I get a witness?

BTW, I have to agree with Martin Weiss, where are the tones/samples when pushing the buttons. My cellphone can do it. These will be custom assignable, right? This will happen as promised, right?

That's easy for you to say. I had my life running just fine being a downtrodden sound guy until SOMEONE decided to make an affordable digital camera that could stand up against film. I spent years learning how to deal with a noisy 35mm camera and now you have made all that knowledge obsolete. Do you innovators ever stop to the think about what you're doing to people's lives?

Thanks a LOT Mr. Jannard. As for the glares of withering contempt I received from film loving DPs whenever I dared to mention that the Red camera looked interesting, you'll be hearing from my lawyer.

All I need is one simple thing - a velcro strap on the side of the camera (over where the tape goes in) with which to securely fasten the camera to my hand for safe stable image recording.

Until I see that, as far as I'm concerned this thing is a death trap. Mind your toes, everybody.
