  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

This camera is too awesome. Image quality way too outstanding for price.

after seeing MX footage, red sucks even more because you suddenly can upgrade your sensor instead of paying 70 000 usd for a new camera.

this thread must come back to life....too much awesomeness the red guys made to bitch around in the meantime.

what about the FLUT™ing FLUT™ thing?

Sure I don't know what your all talking about, don't you all know that every product RED announces is vaporware. They'll never be able to build *insert product here* its just fantasy.
 
Man I hate RED, they are so pathetic! They just had to make a community that creates threads that completely disses the merchandise, now when I go to the legit threads I forget that they aren't sarcastic, so now I'm as confused as ever. The device itself reminds me of one of those plus sign shaped shelves...aka only 50% useable. I mean I get that you can put things on the top half but what about the bottoms, won't the stuff fall? There IS a such thing as gravity...but I guess VAPORWARE doesn't apply to the laws of physics. :(

I've been ripped off by this company very bad. Seriously, I thought the camera cost only 4K. Who do I talk to in order to get my $13,500 back? :incazzato:
 
And RED are lying about their tech specs.

Take the temperature range; operating range is quoted at 0-40 Celsius. Bullocks. Works just fine at -20 C.

The drives are stated at 320gig capacity. Again, a lie.

A while ago they said it was impossible to have REDspace display and RAW histogram simultaneously. And now they just give that functionality away. For free.
 
If Red keeps improving their resolution and DR, I may have to pick another camera. With so little noise how will I be able to practice my favorite photographic art form... digital pointillism?
 
What irks me is no landscape or portrait mode. I mean come on! My aunt's video camera cost $300 and it has a mode that is optimized for landscapes. I went to the Grand Canyon, and I was at a loss as to how I was supposed to film the darn thing. I don't see how "professionals" would ever want a camera so limited in its uses.

The thing that gets my goat going is the MX upgrade. I mean, everything is disposable these days, even my mobile phone is a throw away after 6 months. What is this business of putting a new chip into an old and outdated camera body? It still looks the same. No one will believe me I have a new chip inside. What's the point? At least I want it painted BLUE so every dude in town could see that I have a new camera and forked out the dough for it. And don't even get me started on this business of new firmware updates. WTF is that? Even my dog can tell it is the same camera no matter what magic pixies are pushed up the slot!

OK, I'm over it. Bulild 30 and the camera still looks like the same piece of shit I bought 2 years ago. What a nightmare. I'm getting an F35. Now, this cam looks so new and exciting with a fuckin' mosterous hump on the top, I will need to get a nuclear submarine to take it underwater.
 
Every other month my previous camera manufacturer sends me glossy brochures showing me that they have come up with an even better camera design than last time. They offer lease-to-own at 0% interest. They hand out free tapes. Advertisements in every trade publication there is. They obviously care about their customers, even if I haven't ordered a camera from them in years.

And think of all the crew working on low-budget productions. Before the M-X, they would at least get a break when the lights went down. But no, RED just has to come up with a camera that does 6400 EI. No repect for those at the bottom of their career.

Yeah, good point Martin, where are the fucken glossies? I haven't bought a damn thing from Sony for a decade and I'm still getting a pile of irrelevant brochures every fortnight. What a service and forethought!

It borders on criminal that I've purchased oodles of gear from RED recently and I haven't even been offered paid subscription to REDUser printed magazine that would be filled only with carefully selected success stories and other bullshit advertisment. Cheapskates!
 
This new M-X sensor is ridiculous. With the shallow DOF I get now, I can barely see to focus without throwing out enough light to melt the makeup off the talents faces. But noooo.. this thing sees in the dark better than I do. Clean too, not that grainy, noisy stuff that gives my out of focus footage that arty "I meant to do that" look. I can't see my hand in front of my face and the M-X is picking up all the junk I left in the frame thinking "They'll never see this." It takes more power to run the camera than to light the scene. I'm getting candle wax on everything. Welcome to the new Dark Ages. Now don't get me started on my "I'll fix it in post" with the Red workflow.

Ha thanks for reviving this ketch. It kind of makes you laugh after reading all the "Epic is now valueless" threads. To think that this is what we fought for to get the R1 and the ridiculousness of the complaints then ( good on the people in this thread for making light of it hahaha) man time flies.
