  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The V-BAG is NOT a steadybag. Its DIFFERENT!

The shape being more of a flat bag than a u-shaped bag does make a very big difference I can imagine. The light-bulb test is quite impressive since he stands directly on top of it.

I don't see how someone could pass up on having a little kit on every set. They don't cost that much so a rental would be affordable. Great thing they are waterproof as well. Does anyone have them for rent in the US yet?

Yep! The vacuum is exactly why this product is so cool. You can set it up for the perfect shot - suck the air out of it and it'll keep it's shape no matter what. That also means you can strap two (or more) v-bags together for longer reach and even better stability :-)

That is wild. I would love to see a BTS still of that setup.

I can see how one would expect a durable plastic bag with a pair of valves and "stuff" inside to cost little. Though I would also expect them to withstand heavy abuse for a very long time and serve a useful life. Valves can be replaced. I would imagine they would rent well if rates were low, especially with people going out on location a lot. Is there a nice warranty involved?

Also important to know is how protective it is as it's surrounding the object. Since it doesn't apply pressure it simply just moulds to the object.

Absolutely - I was on a feature where we would strap the camera onto a Magliner, that was secured to the van - and to protect the camera we would wrap it in a V-bag, strap it down further and suck the air out of it. Solid as a rock!

I'd be happy to e-mail the guys from V-bag and ask any questions you might have as they're danish just as me. I could ask if they'd be interested in doing a reduser group buy if people are interested in it?

Tony, I will be interested - Lim

I think we should look at a great discount with a group buy.

@Tony, I'd like to get in on the group buy as well. Please include me if it is a possibility.
Best,

Hey guys.

I just talked to one of the guys at V-bag - very pleasant guy. He was super excited about all the interest in their product and he said they were very interested in putting together a good deal for those of us that were interested in a group buy. He wasn't able to be specific about how much of a discount they would be able to give us without talking to his business partner. However - he was confident it would at least be 10% off the list price if we were able to put together a list of 10 people wanting to buy one.

The only down-side is that they're currently on back-order - meaning they wouldn't be able to ship for another 6-8 weeks. They're produced here in Scandinavia so quality is absolutely top-notch. In fact - he mentioned a few high profile DPs that were working with this product, but I can't name any names ;-) I think they're trying to get permission to post that publicly.

If people are still interested then I'd be happy to put together a preliminary list, which I would send to the guys at V-bag and have them commit to a certain discount. At this point I have no idea how the buying process would work, but I'm thinking the V-bag guys may be able to give us a discount code that will be usable for a limited time. To save money on shipping it might be a great idea if people from the same major cities ordered theirs together... More about that later...

Someone asked about warranty issues and I found a link on their website that you might have missed: http://v-bag.dk/Warranty.aspx Also - here's something about maintenance and repair: http://v-bag.dk/MaintenanceAndRepair.aspx

Thomas from V-bag stressed that everyone was very welcome to contact them directly in case they had questions, concerns or suggestions for their products.

Again - I have no affiliation with the V-bag company. Just want to lend a helping hand :-)

I responded to the link supplied.

I have no idea what the materials and labor costs are and how dynamically they change based on how many are produced. That said, I really hope they can be aggressive on pricing. I understand paying for quality. I know they are more than plastic bags. I wouldn't be interested if I didn't have some sense of their great utility.

Let's hope a bunch of RedUsers show interest and it becomes good business for them to drop the price and still make enough profit.

Cheers - #19

While I can certainly attest that these are made of super high quality materials, I know it's hard to judge the quality based on photos and a few web-videos. I'll see if I can get my hands on one and document this in a better way. There's no doubt that they will not be able to withstand being punctured with a knife or other very sharp objects because they need to be completely sealed to provide vacuum so you need to be careful you don't put it on sharp rocks or something, but other than that - they're perfectly fine being used on the ground and other rugged environments etc.

As far as I know - their technology is also used for other purposes where the requirements are even more demanding.
