Got a rental client who is so damn happy with RAVEN nothing I say can move him to even shoot WEAPON, he's just too in love with RAVEN images, though acknowledges the technical superiority but he just feels Raven is RED's best camera considering the price point!

+1 everyone loves loves my raven for a rental. Like i told Jarred the darn thing paid itself off in 3weeks. You can't go wrong with that camera!

Huh? Now the MX upgrade price is $20k? And Epic is same as R1? Where did that come from?

Here's an attempt at summing up the upgrade paths, not sure how helpful it is -

All MX sensor Camera's (RED One, Scarlet/Epic MX, registered owners only - requires camera trade-in)
to Epic-W (order Epic-W on Oct-11 - $19950USD Total)
to Weapon CF 6K Dragon (????)
to Weapon CF 8K Helium (????)

With all due respect for the effort, I don't think the info provided is completely accurate; begging the question of which is better- an open question or incorrect info.

I thought i read most of this thread, but I missed the Raven to Epic-W path. Thought it was only deposit holders. Thanks Brent.
But what to do? I really like my Raven and its 's easy to rent out. Lots of young kids want it for small projects (and I'm happy to give them a good deal and a 15 min crash course have them up and running shooting Red, who said they were difficult cameras?).
It would be hard to part with it. I have a Scarlet-W deposit in (as I would like to keep my Epic-M) and it will be a stretch financially to buy two Red cameras in a year, so maybe I would send in my Raven.
Back to debating with self

Let me get this straight, please. Sorry if this has already been answered... there's too many posts to read through here, but... If I were to put in a deposit for the S-W before the 11th, will I be eligible to upgrade to the E-W for just 10K? Just seems to good to be true if so.

Thanks in advance.

Yep, this is my first post in Reduser.

Well as it stands you put the deposit in for a scarlet w for $1000, and its $10k on top of the $10k for the scarlet-w. So $20k for epic-w for a limited time. Welcome to reduser Alexander!

I tought about it.
I bought a RED knowing I could upgrade. I missed the deadline for that. My fault.
Now RED gives me another chance to upgrade. But also to order a Epic-w trough a loophole.
That doesn't feel right for me. I missed the deadline and now I get treated better than others trough this thing.
I will just trade in, feels so much better.

In a certain way, I feel the same.
I've obviously been called an idiot for doing this. Trading in my Epic Dragon instead of keeping it, ordering a S-W and then Upgrading to Epic W would mean I would Pay 20 000 for the Epic W contrary to the Epic Dragon trade in which is 14500. This means that effectively I would get the 8K helium Epic W and keep by mere 4500 my Epic Dragon, which I could for sure resell here for a much better price. The Epic W effectively would cost me , If I was to sell my Dragon privately, 10 000 USD or less.

I'm not rich. I want the Weapon Helium, for example, and can't afford it. Yet I feel I will trade in the Epic Dragon. Because its the right thing to do. Its the essence of the original plan.

I have to admit I'm a bit sad that the Epic Dragon owner's upgrade is somehow considered a "bonus" like all the others, specially for the Weapon Helium platform. I really never remembered a time stamp for us to upgrade to Magnesium. This Helium Step was not on the cards, it was a new development, and suddenly, the Epic Dragon guys were "bad" for not jumping in on Magnesium, or didn't play nice. That is the only part I feel, as a Dragon owner, was a bit unfair.

Now we can't upgrade to Magnesium or take the Magnesium to Weapon Helium Jump pricing. magnesium upgraders, guys like me that were pre NAB Dragoners, got 10 000 of accessory credit, including media migration deals, which effectively made their 15 000 upgrade more or less a 7 000 USD upgrade. The new Weapon Helium Deal for 15 000 means effectively the Weapon Helium for them is a great deal. I can understand this was a "thank you" from Red to those that went Magnesium. Yet us Epic Dragon users didn't benefited with the better colors, performance, sensor improvement of the Magnesium Dragon while we didn't upgrade, or the credit offers, media trade ins... We didn't have any sort of indication from Red to do so like we did our Epic Dragon upgrades back then, before the "October" or "Pre NAB" timeline that would grant us the bonus credit and deal on magnesium. All of this went away. To go Weapon Helium, its 34 500 USD. Its like purchasing the Epic MX after stage 4, which was when I bought mine!

Still, I'm going to upgrade, keep myself on the train. I know that with all these offers, upgrades, who gets what, etc, something gets lost along the way.

Me? I just don't do "not feeling right". Its, again, idiotic, non sensical, bad business decision, or throwing money away. But its the right thing to do.

Red always treated me well, the MX to Dragon upgrade was amazing. This one, if I follow it "right", not so much for my pocket, but will do it regardless.

Bring it on!

That is sort of a different question than Scarlet-W vs Epic-W, more like a film stock question.

Epic-W ( and Weapon helium ) both have the luxury of you making that choice down the road. After we catch up with Dragon sensor production you will be able to make that choice after the fact by just paying for a sensor swap. So Epic-W can pay to change to a Dragon sensor, and Weapon Helium can pay to change to a Weapon Dragon, just by change of the sensor.

That is why we don't write Dragon or Helium on the side of those cameras. And those sensor upgrades is a path that Scarlet-W and Raven cannot take.

this interesting ... but there will be Dragon 8k Vista Vision?
I understand that this sensor is a pain in the ass .. but it is so wonderful ..

i hear your conflicted views Sergio. The set up for Epic Dragons seems a little strange.

Don't forget the additional accessory costs of moving to DSMC2.

pretty sure the trade in is going to be the faster way to get a camera.. if people are lining up for SW now they may be in for a rude awakening if:

#1 the line gets so long they are wayyyyyyyyyyy in the back for Epic-w.
OR
#2 they cut off the upgrade path due to crazy orders.

either way it will be VERY VERY interesting to see who stays the SCARLET-W Route, and what this HUGE switch over program does to help get those people cameras faster.

I've deleted this post as I already regret writing it.
