  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

And please for the love of God sort out the camera terminology! Why is is it Epic -W or Scarlet -W? These are body types associated to a body type. Call them Epic-D and Epic -H , Weapon D+VV, Weapon H etc to differentiate sensor. None of this makes sense.

I was there when Red was a category on DVXUser and I've got 11 Red cameras here. I'm really, really struggling to work out your product line and I can tell you now - the rental market will find it infinetly more troublesome. They'll ponder, question and then shoot Alexa Mini, 8K or no.

Sorry to piss on the parade but this is a major and should be sorted before shipping.

I think a recap thread with the various deals laid out in clear terms would be very helpful.
 
See what I mean? And that's people that have bothered to sign up and post on Reduser. Your ACTUAL user base (DOPs , Directors, Producers, Humble production assistants) who don't buy your cameras but who actively promote your brand by proxy will be infinately more befuddled.

Thanks Craig, glad it's not just me! I'll have to wait for the 11th when all the info is in one place! I thought I'd got the grasp of all this, but obviously not ...and I've read all 430+ pages!

Jarred/Brett, I know this is us being impatient, but given the length of this thread and the confusion that seems to be around, is there any chance of one post laying out, almost table like, just what's already in the public domain regarding which sensor in which body and the upgrade costs ... Know you guys are super busy, but it really would help the confused among us (like me!) in weighing up options for the 11th! Forearmed is forewarned as they say!

That is what October 11th is for.

Not much of an "announcement day" now that I did a commendable job of not keeping my mouth shut.. it will be more of a "recap and execute" day.
 
So it should be called Epic-Helium! Not Epic-W. That means nothing to anyone. Jarred I hope you're still reading- you acknowledge that most users aren't on Reduser and even here most people don't get it. Current terminology is not gong to help shake the ""Red is difficult" misconception.
I get asked every other day for a Dragon. Nowadays I ask if they want Epic of Weapon........ and have to interrupt the silence at the end of the phone to explain that Dragon is not a camera.

Yup, that's fair comment about the 11th. Just remember that your commendable job is what makes RED so ace, just hope Brett doesn't shoot you now! Thanks for creating amazing cameras btw!

Thank you for all the info thus far Jarred - after speaking with my rep - it sounds like they are ready to get slammed once the offers go live. I'm thankful and grateful to RED, you and the reduser community. Disruptive is an understatement!

No offence but it's not that hard guys ;)

W & Weapon = DSMC2
Helium = new sensor, S35 8K
Dragon = current sensor, 6K and 8K VV

Scarlet-D = DSMC1 with Dragon
Epic-D = DSMC1 with 6K Dragon
Raven = DSMC2 with 4.5K Dragon
Scarlet-W = DSMC2 with 5K Dragon
Epic-W = DSMC2 with 8K Helium
Weapon Helium = DSMC2 with 8K Helium (deluxe)
Weapon Mg = DSMC2 with 6K Dragon
Weapon CF = DSMC2 with 6K Dragon (deluxe)
Weapon VistaVision = DSMC2 with 8K Dragon

(off the top of my head, easypeasy)

It's really not that difficult. As Jarred just pointed out, the Epic-W will, in the future, be able to be fitted with a Dragon sensor. So Epic-Helium makes no sense.


Weapon is the top of the DSMC2 line. So Scarlet and Epic's newest counterparts get a "-W" designation. Raven is a totally new level of camera so doesn't need it.
