You see, I wrap up an edit at 2AM, like I just did with my S-W and I watch it over and over and over and cant help but be so damn happy with that my S-W allows me to deliver. I cant imagine any drama haha. Offer a 10k camera for $5000 tomorrow and ill be happy you did, I wont care what I paid for my S-W, because just damn. I love this thing. *Disclaimer* I may be riding a 12 hour editing lack of sleep euphoric wave, if I sound a little crazy please forgive me, but look at THIS! So much awesome cameraness! lol

John that was just awesome like Jarred told. I'm also represented in the race scene but more Motocross related. You must have used some bazooka lenses getting those action shots. Can't wait to get my s-w. Looks so promising.

I'm going for the upgrade, don't want to be in the hassle of selling my epic MX.
I'm ready. Thanks for this amazing opportunity.

Is it me or is the price of trading in the Epic-MX for a Epic-W basically the same as keeping the Epic-MX and buying a new Scarlet-W + Upgrade to Epic-W?

At first I was bummed out a bit when Jarred mentioned the final price of $19.500 for us Epic-MX owners as he originally stated that it would cost "a bit more than $10k"....well things change I guess :-)

But finally that might even be a good thing as it makes the decision easier for me

the difference is going to be the wait. if you can wait, then SW upgrade path may be more for you. If you want the camera before the SW people, I have a feeling the mx upgrade path may serve you well.

Jarred? How much will cost upgrade from Scarlet-W to Epic-W after this limited time offer? I guess it will stay available but for more money?

Red cameras were a revolution for motorsports. I'm also on the motorsport scene, and since 2012 The Epic MX and Epic Dragon really made my work shine :

I really hope the Epic-W will allow this versatility in frame rates and resolution... I just wont be able to go Weapon Helium. Its either stay on Dragon and probably keep the frame rates, or go Epic W and lose this capability to use this great cinematic language of High frame rates...

the SCARLET-W will continue to be "Future Proof". It will most likely continue to have a path to WEAPON DRAGON, or the HELIUM line. And yes it's safe to assume after the "here today gone tomorrow" price will increase. BUT as you are bare witness to this offer for original DSMC owners, there may be a few rounds (chances) to upgrade the SCARLET-W

it is important to stress what Jarred has stated several times in different ways, which is THIS time the upgrade deals are different, there are Unique circumstances (IE SW) that make this unlike any other upgrade. It seems the "Normal" rules for upgrades are out the window. BUT he has said many times that this will not be the way they do things moving forward.

Judgement day here we come

From Jarred's reply to me, it looks like it's Weapon Helium if we want 75fps or higher above 6K. I was saying it wouldn't be nice to have 75 in 7K or 6.5K. He replied something along the line: "Not a chance, you need Weapon Helium for that"

Does this mean 6K 48fps is a possibility??... :smile5:

I said this yesterday:
The main FPS specs I hope to see are for 48 FPS and 72 FPS (multiples of 24). Based on the stormtrooper chart, my assumption for Epic-W is 48 FPS at 5K and 72 FPS at 4K 2.4:1. I will be pleasantly surprised if wrong. Best case scenario I think would be 48 FPS at 6K and 72 FPS at 5K.
----

So it sounds like my best case hope of 48FPS at 6K turned out to be true...

Jarred, what about 72FPS at 5K? or another way... what's the max FPS at 5K?

Remember guys, the crop factor (35mm FF stills equivalent) of SWs 50 FPS is 1.41x. Getting 48 FPS (maybe 50 FPS) on the Epic-W at 6K is only 1.6x.... using a 35mm lens, you're going from a 49mm (Scarlet-W) to 56mm (Epic-W). For those who are SW waiters, you're really not losing much on FPS... really.

Hi guys ... probably missed it .... but is there a confirmed upgrade price Scarlet-W to Epic-W?

I can see a confirmed MX etc upgrade price, but can only see a "likely" upgrade cost of $10K.

Pretty exciting .... thanks

Jarred, do you think weapon magnesium will ever be able to upgrade in the future to weapon helium or whatever is next after this fall or is this my one and only window?

To be honest I think if the FPS is so low as 5K 48p, that would be worse than Scarlet-W and with Scarlet-W that resolution would still be S35. (EDIT: OK, sorry, I didn't realize the 6K 48p thing is already confirmed to be there. Anyways that could still mean it could be more than that)

If you look at scarlet-W, the 5K FPS is pretty much capped to half of bigger brothers, but under that resolution the performance is pretty much same with all the bigger models. That choice made scarlet-w a camera that is clearly lower on the line up but still doesn't feel crippled (which is why I think so many people want to buy one). If Epic-W won't do 48-60p around 6.5-7K it will feel quite crippled unless you really never ever need slow motion at all. If it were to do these frame rates, they would still come with a cost to the compression so there would still be big difference between Epic-W and Helium

Jarred said earlier as a comment to someone's wish to have frame rates of 75-100 on Epic-W that these frame rates wouldn't be possible above 6K... so from that we could assume that at 6K, or at least 5.5K, it will do at least 75 and less than that above.

I was expecting the "old camera" upgrade price to be around $15-17.5k if you had to send in your camera. At $20k, I'd probably keep the old cam and just place a S-W order now for the same price. Unless there is a pretty big allocation priority with the trade-in. It would be a big bonus to not wait so long.

The difference of FOV and crop factor at the same FPS between SW and EW is negligible... 10%

Format compare (Phil Holland's cool tool for figuring this stuff out) to S35:
Scarlet-W at FF 5K 50FPS

Epic-W at FF 6K 48FPS (maybe 50FPS, Jarred?)
link

Please note these crop factors are in relation to S35 and not 35mm FF Stills.

I don't think you'll have to go as low as 5K to be able to shoot 72FPS. Think Weapon MG.
