cheers.

I think Fabricio is asking the same question as i am wondering about.
I have not put in a deposit for a Scarlet-w yet. Can i put in a deposit tomorrow and pull the trigger on a Epic-w on October 11. for the same price as those who have been waiting for a long while?

Jarred said the $10K upgrade was a reward for waiting... but like the boss in the 11th-hour-worker parable that Jesus told who oaid out the same to the early workers as the ones who arrived later in the day, "But he answered one of them, 'I am not being unfair to you, friend. Didn't you agree to work for a denarius? Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you. Don't I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?'" Matthew 20:1-16

Short answer is: only the boss man knows. But either way, he is being generous to a lot of us.

Hi Jarred, couple of questions. I ordered my Scarlet W on April 14th and I also put another deposit with a dealer that says they have an order place on January. My question is two fold. 1.)Will there be a certain timeframe of people that qualify for the upgrade to the EPIC W for $10K ? (for example only people with a timestamp before May will qualify) 2.) If we have an order with a dealer how would that work?

Thanks

Gotta say, I am super excited about this camera. I was going for the Scarlet W mostly for slow motion but since I already have a Scarlet D it didn't seem like that much of a step up. 16 steps of latitude is huge and helps me every time I shoot, but I have that now. With Epic W I taking a giant step up, getting a camera of the future, and that's coming from a camera that is amazing. I will be able to shoot with this camera for years and with the upgrade offer, getting it at a price that is nearly unbelievable.

That's sums it up for me, I can barely believe it. Wow!

Ok let me throw my few questions in here.
I chose Scarlet-W because, at the time, it was what I could afford. The 5K crop works well for what I shoot and my current computer can handle it... barely. If Epic-W is 8K and I shoot 5K with it do I still get the same 5K crop factor as Scarlet-W? If so then I can justify the $10K upgrade.

Also I ordered through a dealer so how does that work?

Is this offer not only for the people who already ordered when it was not yet known they would have to wait for at least +/- 9 months?

If you shoot 5k on the Epic-W you will use 18.7 x 9.8mm vs 25.6 x 13.5mm on the Scarlet-W, it's a different crop factor (right between Super16 and S35).

The scarlet W is a 6K sensor with a 5K active part.
The epic-w is if Jarred is not lying:P 8K
So 8K to 5K inside epic-w is more crop, than the 6K to 5K scarlet-W.
I don't know the methametics but there are guy's here who know that.

It has been said a few times before. the option to upgrade is exactly that. the SW is an AMAZING camera..it will be up to you to choose.

Brent mentioned the other day they won't make EVERYONE happy.

there have been no exact details on the hints regarding upgrade paths, how long they will be available other than "here today, gone tomorrow"

It's somewhere in the thread mentioned (I just couldn't locate the reply),
AFAIU from following this thread:
You are eligible for it if you are on the scarlet-w waiting list (whom hasn't received their camera), or current scarlet-w owner (whom has received their camera) at the time of the Oct 11th announcement.
It's not a forever timing deal, but you'll have plenty of time to make the payment to switch over; however,
if you decide to join, you better join quick. It's gonna be a long queue very soon -- that type of thing.
Also, orders thru dealers counts too.

But hey if you wanna know what Jarred's / Brent / official's exact wordings, it's somewhere in the thread.

And yes, Brent did mention something about "...a pocket camera that shoots 12K @120FPS for $500..." :ihih:hehe

I bet the difference between Epic-W and Helium Weapon is FPS.
So maybe---just maybe---people have to choose between high FPS of Scarlet-W with less crop and Epic-W with less FPS and bigger crop (if they choose higher FPS)
Otherwise there wouldnt be a difference between Helium Weapon and Epic-W...since Helium-W cost 60K.

Thanks for the info. Thank you also, Jaimy. This is my major deciding factor. Plus my current set up won't handle 8K footage right now. I need to finish a few more projects first. So good luck to you guys jumping on this offer. It's amazing and I really hate to pass it up but I'll bow out and let someone else take my place in line.

I'm just excited to be getting a RED. You guys better post a crap-ton of footage for us to see.

Happy hunting next month guys.

or...you can chose 8K but you record pro res only, so you will have the full frame filmed in 8K but with a 2k file, I think will still be great, also like this you will not kill your computer and minimags...lol...

I'm also really curious about file sizes/stress for the computer.
On the other hand. The money you might save on this update you can put towards a PC upgrade. I think within a few months you can build a pc that handles the 8K for a couple of k's.

And you will probably have the option to shoot proress/DNxH(D/R) for the time you can't handle the footage quick enough.

But then again. I render 5K mx footage on full res in resolve at 33fps. Four years ago it was more like 5fps. So going back to the old day's not that big of a deal:P

Yes exactly what I suggested, anyway most of the time I use pro res (red log cinema) with my SW and is gorgeous. I use the raw files just as backup!

Well handling 8K footage and super high crop for slowmotion IS kinda scary for me. But it seems to be a crazy deal after all so we'll see :)

the way these new cameras work with proxies computers dont seem to be the issue. storage seems like an issue, but hard drives keep getting cheaper
