ALLOCATED today for Scarlet-W! (September 30th timestamp - Raven switcher).

Calling SW with Dragon Sensor "Old Tech" is kind of doing a disservice to how amazing it is. I'm interested in the October news too but epic-w is going to be double the price it looks like anyways

My goodness, there's some prickle here. I understand there's a lot of emotion about these cameras, so it's cool.

Let me elaborate: what I am saying is, as much of a RED fanboy as I am- and I have been there from almost Day One- I run a business, and investing in a camera system is a big decision. I need to justify it and see the ROI. Especially being a working director/dp living in LA and NY, where I can- and do- get any camera I want, for cheap. I'm not saying Dragon's not swell. I'm not saying S-W isn't 'disruptive'. I am saying, it's not the new chip. And I've been waiting 9 months to get a camera, and in that time, life has not stopped.

I'm pretty sure the RED team has something special coming in October that'll make the wait worth it.

yeah for $26K. Where have been all the people before not buying into Weapon MG instead of Scarlet or Raven. You would have it by now. Suddenly everyone can swing $26K, wow

I completely understand. I'm investing in a camera system for a business too. I don't mean any angst. I'm just saying most people i know who chose to go with $10,000 SW can't afford $15k+ more magically. And while I'm sure helium is incredible, I don't think it will blow dragon out of the water. I do agree that if you have SW on order it would be nice to at least know what epic-w offered before you take delivery of one camera and realize you wanted the new one.

Scarlet-W is like Jarred said originally its totally "disruptive" and nothing comes close to it for the price. if you can't make something look amazing with this camera I dunno what to say

Completely agree, people here are getting so dismissive. I've been watching RED for a long time and I'm so excited that the Scarlet-W finally gives me all the features I need for what is a completely fair price tag. Yes, it's pricey from a certain point of view but for what it does you're getting amazing value.

I'm with you patrick. i flew across the country for NAB 2015 to be on the ground for the weapon announcement, crossing my fingers i could afford to upgrade my little scarlet dragon. i couldn't, but i knew that there would be a day in the future that, if i worked hard, my time would come. a few months later, jarred announced the closing of the lines from scarletD to epicD. i knew based on history that i needed to jump, as the past informs us of the pace of the evolution of reds ecosystem. this year, i flew across the country again, to see new friends and old, and stood in the red booth beside jarred as he handed us the sword that phil shot in 8K. little did we know, helium8K was already among us, lurking in the shadows of it's mighty VV big brother.

fast forward to today: i have the funds ready to jump to carbon weapon. but, just like you, i am going to wait just a little longer, for that something special that I'm sure will come in october. its an exciting time, and i am thankful for the choices red has given us for all of these years.

Raven switchers

Raven switchers

My goodness, they are still getting through raven switchers from September. How many raven switchers are there? I don't see how non raven switchers from jan/February are going to be allocated by Fall?

I can't help but feel like Scarlet-w and Raven customers are acting like spoilt brats. RED is offering a camera that can basically do exactly what my Epic does for half the price. That's nothing short of incredible. I don't think those of you new to RED know just how lucky you are. The Raven and Scarlet-W are in short supply because of the mammoth amount of orders they recieved. Why? Because it's an incredible deal on an incredible camera and a ticket to an incredible camera ecosystem. If you don't like it, go buy an FS7 and be disappointed when you end up with a second rate image. Trust me, hang tight, it will be worth it.

I'm super excited to see what RED has in store for us in October. The prospect of upgrading my Epic has me literally frothing at the mouth. Cudos to RED for breaking the mold and leading the pack. Proud to be a part of the family.

The SW is indeed a great camera and deal, and I'm sure the October update is going to make a lot of current Epic owners happy.

But even so I don't think Raven and SW customers mind waiting at all for what they're getting it's just that if you at least know an estimated date of when you are going to get the camera I'm sure it wouldn't be much of a problem.

Maybe be a bit more thought is required before this post. There were multiple occasions where we were told by our reps that thy couldn't see it taking more than 2-3 months, and then the Raven month happened, and then the sensor issues started. Most of us aren't crying. in fact I've just been shooting on a rental epic dragon all summer with the odd Alexa rental and I'm fine to wait I just wish I would've known it would've been September before I bought my S-W and I would've bought an epic dragon to hold me over - which would've turned into an epic - w after all these announcements of new cameras and a new sensor and new options. Not knowing any of this would happen this way I've lost quite a bit of cash holding out - again not crying just stating the facts. I don't think anyone has a problem waiting it's more about an accurate estimate of how long we would have to wait as this would've changed the decisions a lot of us made 8 months ago.

Allocated and shipped overnight. S-W Raven October switcher :)

More perspective - in just the jobs I've done since I've placed my order for the s-w I've given about just over $20k CAD to a rental house for an epic dragon that could've paid my camera off, and that's not including whatever income I've lost from straight rentals. This is not RED's fault but had I known it wouldn't be here for the summer I would've gladly have them the money for a brand new dragon and watched it pay itself off over these last months. We are all excited about the camera and we all can't wait to get ours but it's hard not to have a bit of a sour taste in your mouth when you consider how everything went down. I'm sure it will go away once my camera gets here but it's been a ride and for those of us who've been waiting patiently it's a little annoying to be dubbed a whiner all things considered.

I think it's reasonable for people to be a little disgruntled...In an industry where we work to deadlines and everything needs to be organised and scheduled it's a little surprising that 'Late summer' (which has now turned into 'Fall') is all people were given to guess when they'll actually have a camera to shoot with.
More importantly, the Scarlet-W was aimed at a market that won't necessarily have many thousands to throw down on a camera without much care...at least for myself it was a huge investment. The Scarlet-W was welcoming people into the ecosystem, not purely aimed at people within it that will want to upgrade. Therefore I think it's reasonable to say that financially a lot of Scarlet-W purchasers can't afford to just sit there and wait till it comes with no idea of when it will actually come. Many of us have missed the so-called 'busy period' in summer that would have stood a good change of letting a Scarlet-W pay for itself if we'd have had them to use.

I understand that the development of Helium will free up the demand for Dragon and I still highly praise the Dragon's performance but seeing all the excitement over this new sensor and its capabilities whilst still waiting for our cameras feels slightly like looking through a window and watching a party going on in the other room that you weren't a part of

I have followed all these posts like a hawk and I understand that hold-ups have somewhat been uncontrollable for RED and appreciate that it's amazing that such a camera was even created. However, you've got to take into account that when you release a camera that takes on a whole different market (and users that desperately need the camera they've purchased to grow their work) then you're going to get people asking for more specific dates

Unless you have a contract that guarantees supply of goods on a particular date, then delivery "chat" from a sales rep or manufacturer should not be relied upon.

Don't expect a linear timeline for product improvements nor timely notice of how specs and price of new kit could affect your business.
This goes for all manufacturers, especially Red, who have a vigorous development program in what is a very competitive marketplace.
