The Update Thread

You might have missed the rename thread posts instead of having monthly posts, and world largest thrad posts. How do you find the updates in the eventual 10k posts, or the last updates up to thousands of posts ago. Just some practical chill out advice, and sign post the action.

Stiiiiillllll things are way too hyper here, sndnI haven't let people know it is likely that the barnyard keepers are letting it go that way, because what is coming in October is going be really.good. Somebody did say cameras (and we are yet to see the laser projector, the reday 2 network, that extra wide sensor (and all the other monstrous announcements) 3D single lens firmware updates). A few pre announcements on these for Christmas, CES, or Nab release, would be a blessing. PersoballynIm interested in RAW unprocessed frames from the 6k Smartphone, to get an idea of how good it is (hint, hint :) )

Now you're getting the hang of it... that's socializing... in a nerdy sort of way. '-)

nerds are the best. glad to be one, just wish i was on the same level as some of the nerds who post here.. its amazing what you learn from some of these incredible people.

Wayne, socialize... take a little time off (in the thread) from information gathering and enjoy the socializing?

An observation

Wayne, don't take this the wrong way! :)

Wayne sure does post a lot.

I am sure Wayne knows what Wayne is posting about....

But, I never do....

So if an Epic Dragon owner were to find himself in this crossroads what would you advice him to do?

- Wait till October and see what the announcements are before upgrading/buying anything.

- Pre-Order a Scarlet-W today and see what "floating path less covered in thorns" is all about

- Upgrade to a Weapon today and find out what your new option are come October.

Decisions Decisions. I've been debating between buying a Scarlet-W or upgrading to Weapon for months since it's about the same amount of monetary investment. The nice things is that no matter what I pick, it's going to be amazing... but it's so hard!

I'm somewhat in your boat. I've been teetering on the sell or wait option for awhile. Can this be answered to some extent? Does the upgrade option look any better for Epic Dragon owners than it did for MG Weapon? With Helium I can see a reason to make a jump, I personally couldn't justify the Weapon MG upgrade.

Could there be some other alternatives to since it seems DSMC 1 is about to hit the end of the road? Maybe a trade across option to S-W to get into the new camera pipeline? Alternative discount options on other bodies? Just asking for ideas because as a DSMC 1.0 user I do want to get into DSMC 2, but doing that has proven difficult in terms of shitty offers on my camera(from cheap first time buyers browsing the Marketplace), and or only having one option going over to DSMC 2. I realize RED doesn't have to do this, I'm just asking if there might be other options available since the current one doesn't really allow for me to afford it or justify it.

I hear ya Jeff. I also own an EPIC. But I jumped on getting a SW instead of upgrading my epic to weapon. I also was worried about the value of my epic dragon. But Brent said earlier he wouldn't sell before the announcement in October. It's not far away.
its going to be very exciting when all the paths are put forth.

Just out of curiosity?

Do you guys believe that there'll eventually be a Raven Helium update?

Don't know if it's going to be to HELIUM, but I think there will be some kind of RAVEN ugprade.

RED seems to have adopted the "No camera left behind" company policy.

Hope that means that Scarlet MX is still in the game!

Congrats. I'm just hoping the jump or options in October aren't as far out of reach as they were before and hopefully a few different paths into DSMC 2 are offered for the likes that can't afford to try and keep up with the top of the line options.

Obviously super pumped for those that are reaping the benefits of having to unfortunately wait for their cameras for a long duration of time. However there are a lot of people that have owned and operated cameras for the last 4+ years, many even far longer that are kind of in limbo. Curious to see how it all shakes out for those well invested folk as well.

one thing is for sure. Epic-Mx getting included is a very positive thing. I remember when I upgraded to Dragon, I was told by my rep if i didnt do it then it would always be a MX. (right before the Nab announcements)

6K Raven "Baby" Helium? :)

That would be nice... but if true, it would be a year or two away IMO, unless they get their sensor production under firm control earlier.

At that point, they maybe could decide to take on the extra workload.

Just had a thought... wouldn't it be wild if RAVENs were worth their original price for their early upgrade potential for some sort of HELIUM sensor? '-)

I am exited about October.... Helium, Dragon, Weapon... All kinds of Gasses and Massive Destruction words that with RED, do not harm the world... heheheheh

if you can manufacturer custom asic etc why not real time interpolation so you can get full frame (whatever that is) and clean pixel bin / interpolate to 4K (or whatever) for high speed - that would resolve two issues - aliasing since you would be oversampling and data rates since only the 4K (or whatever) would have to be written to storage
But having said that it would probably add a lot to price, heat management, etc.

, how are we meant to find updates? , 90% of the posts are skippable, and I can't read them all). :)

I am a daily reader for many years and not a poster but the way I cut through the cheese and get my fix of the good stuff is to bookmark all of Jarred recent posts as my first REDUSER bookmark page. This link shows only his posts and I can scan and see if there is interesting info very fast:

http://www.reduser.net/forum/search.php?do=finduser&userid=2&contenttype=vBForum_Post&showposts=1

And also his Facebook Page as he seems to post there more good things there now first : https://www.facebook.com/jarred.land
