The Update Thread

If they decided to change Epic W to Epic H, they'd have to change all the front logos, as they all have "Epic W" engraved on them. Epic H makes more sense, but I'm happy with either one.

Depends who you are ( camera wise ) If you are a DSMC2 customer ( Scarlet-W, Weapon MG, Weapon Carbon ) and you are doing a Helium upgrade its going to be a much faster process because of the mechanicals.

That said, There always will be periods of insanity that things stack up.

But this launch will be very different than our past launches.

This time... We aren't fucking around.

All Epic-Ws.

Since it sounds like DSMC is possibly going away with this Oct 11th refresh, we could see two categories: Dragon and Helium. They'll all be DSMC2 bodies, so they won't need to show the old Scarlet and Epic alongside. It will just be "DRAGON -- Raven, Scarlet-W, Weapon VV" and "HELIUM -- Epic-W, Weapon Helium"

Like Peter Majtan said, it is confusing that the two "-W" cameras have different sensors, but I think just dividing them by sensor helps clarify the differences.

Agreed. Dividing them by sensor is the important part... and makes it pretty ease to understand and explain I think.

I follow things pretty closely, and yet even I'm starting to get confused. The idea of simplifying things was great, but I feel the application had an opposite result. Not only are clients confused, but so are customers.

Keeping one model nickname per resolution would have made the most sense to me, and ditch all these -W and such, and just denote the generation based on DSMC 1, 2, 3, etc.

Raven 4.5K
Scarlet 5K
Epic 6K
Weapon 8K

Each can have whatever sensor, so Weapon 8K could be in either Dragon or Helium. Adding in multiple variants of 8K with the same sensor is just causing mayhem.

It's clearly too late for this, but maybe there's a way to make sense of things moving forward. :)

I don't think anyone has asked this question yet, but... What's going to happen with all of the DSMC1 accessories we all have now? :001_tongue: I'm guessing there's going to be a huge drop in price for the re-sale market on those.

Alternatively, we could come together and create an elephant graveyard/art installation piece with all of these bits and pieces?

I think the DSMC1 cameras will be refurbished and resold as "battle tested" at an unheard of previously prices. Prices will be too tempting.. for the very first time, brings these RED cameras within reach for a very large group of shooters. They might dominate the DSLRs, MFTs and BMC camera market space. The accessories will take less hit in terms of market resell prices.

More likely will go to Educational Institutions.

I'm lobbying for them to change the name to Epic-H

Uhm, why? But if that is the biggest issue come Oct 11, I will do a jig...

We have made is clear with Scarlet-W that the W tells folks compatible with DSMC2 accessories...

By this logic, we should change it to Scarlet-D with D standing for Dragon, and have both a Scarlet-D, and a Scarlet Dragon. Which are too different cameras.... Clear as mud.

Brain names are sensor agnostic.

It won't be available after the 11th and you won't get it until much later than 11th if you order today! The MG is stills weeks out from shipping from the information i've received regarding my MG order.

So is there any point in jumping on this first thing oct 11th? or are upgrades going to be serviced based on previous S-W timestamp?

Jarred said "Here today, gone tomorrow" Which I interpret as meaning you will have one day to switch your Scarlet-W order to Epic-W to get the $10k credit deal. I would assume the same applies to people who already have Scarlet-Ws in terms of getting their deposits in?? Unless I missed something and I certainly do miss things!!

Brent - please see my post on page 250 (http://www.reduser.net/forum/showth...pdate-Thread&p=1667591&viewfull=1#post1667591) and don't put me on the s*** list please, I am just expressing the ever-growing confusion - both amongst the clients and your customers as well...

I was once overheard talking shop by an uninitiated, "Should we shoot blackmagic or red dragon?" and was complimented, "I really love the nicknames you have given your cameras".

I really like the names 'Mysterium' 'Red One' 'Red Dragon' and 'Red Raven' and I think those names were generally well received. Raven is great because as the only camera with that name, you know exactly what it is. Helium is maybe less evocative but fits in well and is distinctive and original as a product line.

Scarlet, Weapon, Epic, Bomb, for whatever reason these don't really carry any positive or attractive connotations.

When your camera is officially named 'Red Weapon Dragon Vista Vision Woven Carbon Fiber 8k' you might as well go the route most japanese cameras have gone and name it R75d mkIII or the like.

Weapon Dragon 8K VV... To be exact.

They can call it whatever they want as far as I'm concerned. These are amazing cameras at really disruptive prices. Can't wait to have one!

Jesus. Squabbling over the names of the cameras now. C'mon guys, u must be getting bored.

lol maybe they are hinting that it's time for Jarred to give us another hint, so they could have something else to be awestruck or disappointed at... Which seems to happen every time :dupe:
