The Truth...

RAID arrived this morning ->plugged, worked. Greenscreentests this morning. Incredible. Never had a key done in seconds before. RED rocks, RED is it and yes Jim: Only optimists can do what you guys have done, only optimists keep on doing this. I'm one of the lucky guys who has one of the first REDs in his hand, because, two years ago, I was an optimist and nothing has changed on that.

Hello Jim,

I'm based in Kalgoorlie Western Australia 600kms remote from probably the most remote City (Perth, Western Australia) in the Southern hemisphere.
I have watched for a long time a year and a half two years now not saying much if at all... learnt a whole lot (Thanks everyone on this forum. For a education a laugh a reality check)...

Jim your message and that of your special (small) team has always been crystal clear. I have faith as many others here... and I have put what money I have down in the belief of that... keep up the good work. From a small studio with a small team I understand that you are breaking through many ceilings and wow what a ride.

Thank you again...

Brian Cattaway

My backing, patience, believe in, and understanding is completely with the RED team.

Sincerely

My life would be less interesting If you actually did know exactly what your were doing.

This is all just too much fun.

2008 is going to be a Red Riot.

...Which is why we were a scam in the beginning. For good reason.

Jim

Jim,

Ever since you guys were a scam, you've remained well... pretty much a scam... in the eyes of those that "know it all".

But seriously, if your heartfelt admission is for those of us that believed in your vision from the onset, then it's really unneccesary, ie speaking for myself in particular.

Bottomline, fanboy or hater, Red is here to stay and there's nothing much any of us can do about that... either way. I'm here for the long haul, though.

What else to add to what already has been said in this thread, well, Mr. Jim you know now that people support you and the Red team in this revolution. Carry on.

We don't know what we are doing.

That is the truth.

We have never done any of this stuff before. Everything is new to us. Every single thing.

We give you dates for delivery based on guesstimates. But we don't know. We haven't done it before. This may explain why we are late on so many things.

We are optimists. If we weren't, we would have NEVER started this undertaking. Realists would have never gotten past square one. By being optimists, we often times think we can do things faster than we really can. Keep in mind that we believe in the dates and timeframes we quote. If we are late, it is not because we tried to trick you... it is because we are revolutionizing an industry and we have never been here before. Did I mention how small an army RED has?

This declaration should cover hardware, software, and every other thing we are doing. Put yourselves in our shoes for just a minute and it will become crystal clear. We just don't know anything for sure. How could we?

The fact that we have come this far is a miracle. No one should have been able to do it. Which is why we were a scam in the beginning. For good reason. What we are doing just isn't possible.

I guess the point is... try to relax on us a bit. We are attempting the impossible. But we can't do it overnight. We are listening. And changing. And improving. Everyday.

All we ask for is your patience.

Jim

Jim, once again, get your head down. Right now, you, and your seriously impressive team know more about 4K CMOS motion picture cameras than 99.96% of all working DOP's out there, and here.
No apologies needed. You have more balls than most in this business.
Get on with it already...
Best

A scam, huh.

Well, whatever. You've been delivering for me since that first pair of goggles someone sold me in LA on my trip riding an underpowered motorcycle from Tucson to north of San Francisco in 84.

I bet on you then and almost two years ago I bet on you again with a deposit I couldn't afford for a camera and glass.

Today I told the bank to ship you most of my life savings.

Bring on the damn scam. And overclock it.

if they knew what they were doing they would have never started this to begin with. progress is achieved with hope , ignorance and hard work

Jim,

What you guys have achieved is indeed a miracle already. I aggree with whoever said you should concentrate on the camera first then worry about the rest of the accessories. My other worry is while RED ONE is still technically in development and doesn't have all the features ready, you guys already annouced a Scarlet....I am worry that this may take resources away from RED ONE.... I also think the RED army may need to grow!
RED POWER BABY!!! :weight_lift: (keep up the good work it's greatly appreciated!!!!)

I think Red owes a lot to you the users of its products. Its interesting to note that they have been able to get away with releasing a product that is not fully mature in terms of camera development and production work flow and are coming up with periodic builds that sometimes takes away the features of a previous build temporarily -- it would have been difficult to tolerate this behavior if their users were an industry instead of individual users.

Today I told the bank to ship you most of my life savings.

I can understand the difficulty one has to go through parting with a major portion of their life savings. That is why I always thought that for those users for whom Red is a major portion of their savings/income, may be they might have waited for a little more time for the product to settle in and see its industry acceptance.

Remember, a wise man learns from his/her mistakes, and a wiser man learns from other's mistakes.

I certainly appreciate what you're saying.

However as I more or less said in my original comment, I bet almost a quarter of a century ago on Jim with what was, for a 24 year old kid moving to northern Cal on an underpowered motorbike, most of my spare money. Betting on him and his team again now... like old home week.

* laughs *

Team RED told me today they expect to ship on Monday (and if it slips till Tuesday what with President's Day, so be it.) By the end of the week, Camera 346 will be mine, my precioussssss....

I am sorry if I sounded a bit harsh. Your commitment is certainly praiseworthy. I wish you good luck and wish that you really enjoy your experience with your Red camera.

"Is RED a religion? Is Jim God?"

hummmm ...
Kodak was the yellow God ..
fuji the green god ...
agfa the pastel god ..
so perhaps JJ is the RED god ?

jim is the pixel god !

Is RED a religion? Is Jim God?

Yes on both accounts. There will be those that follow and those who won't. And for those who don't, Jim will forgive them.

Seriously, what a funny question. It got my morning off to a good start with a nice, healthy laugh.

Steve
