These are the times we love...

Sony announces a new 8K (4K actually) camera, a 4K home projector and some other stuff. We love it. Really.

These are the times of real action. Finally.

1080P has finally been exposed once and for all. It never was "good enough". God love Sony for helping to spread this message.

We just got wind of more 4K development from another "big dog". Love it. The industry has finally woken up. About time.

RED sits in the cat-bird seat. We have plenty of tricks up our sleeve. And our new developments don't force our customers to buy new cameras. Upgrades... that's what the future is all about. I just hope none of the "other guys" claim upgrades as something new when they finally start to offer them. That would really piss me off and fire me up... not that I need it.

If you invest in RED, you are investing in a philosophy. This philosophy was RED's from the beginning. Take care of the customer. Truly. EPIC-X is a perfect example. Just wait to see what's next.

Believe me when I tell you that the other guys are going to have to start running to keep up with us. A 14" wide camera isn't going to keep pace. Expect major leaps from us. And soon.

We have been waiting for someone to wake up. Apparently they did. Now the fun really begins... I am so excited about the prospect of a real business fist-fight that I can hardly stand it.

RED stands for passion and war. Armor up. Put your helmet on. The fireworks have begun. And the one that wins is the customer. Just the way it should be....

I love these times. We have been trying to pick a fight for 5 years. Finally we have one.

I am so happy...

Hardly a fight when the camera that boasts an 8k sensor but shoots at 4k, thought a 16bit, probably wont be touched by an editor because of its off the wall format. However, I am glad you are ready for a fight, haha though I feel like Red's going to a knife fight with a gun and its name is epic haha. Love the excitement. And I am glad that you, as a company stand for the costumer. The fact that you realize that good solid competition only improves product and causes the customer to win makes me REALLY glad I support you guys. Thanks for not being greedy. Its what causes you to win in the end.

No doubt, where I put my money;-) Just a few days until I should get my RED 222 follower EPIC X... Hope before 16th, until then I'm out of office, shooting two weeks on a small island. Just to say, I would be somehow p... of if my EPIC X arrives just after 16th and sitting without work in my office in Switzerland. Shit happens but wonders also ;-))

Fired up Jim is my favorite Jim. Looking forward to what the rest of the month and year bring from Red :)

We may have taken a knife to a gun fight... but we have a bazooka in our back pocket. :-)

Great time to be a filmmaker, that's for sure :)

Nice to see that the "new philosophy" "not-giving-things-away-to-competitors" Jim Jannard still has his sense of fun intact. And continues to drop hints.

Anyway, I kinda feel like an artist sitting in the Renaissance in the middle of this series of scientific breakthroughs that means that WHAM suddenly I have awesome oil paints with colors and precision I've never seen before - except they're made by some crazy bunch of druids who decided to sell them for a fraction of the price of the old paints that weren't as good. Rather inspiring.

If you guys don't cause a filmmaking Renaissance of awesome movies as a result of your technical developments and amazing value, it's all us filmmakers' fault... but I think that has begun already.

Now give us a hint - is Scarlet 2/3rds fixed on the list for possible sensor upgrades in the future... or if we want to buy into the upgradeable program should we be thinking Epic-S instead? ...I had to ask!

Cheers, Jim.

I can't tell you exactly what we are doing... but I can tell you we are busy re-writing history.

Jim, I'm ready to" pick up my fight" too, and it will be you and the Red team that will allow me to be able to. I'm ready to lose this "fight" if I lose in talent, but the time were I wasn't even accepted on the "ring" will be over. This is the true independent filmmaking revolution. I know you guys won't disappoint, and I'm awaiting your "Gloves" to help me enter the ring!

Well I think it's pretty easy to see the next coming attractions. Sony has now entered on RED's turf... not so much with the intro of the F65 / price point... but they are also claiming to work on new sensors that approach the dynamic range of the human eye. It will be interesting to see how this turns out... I know they will be forced to introduce a modular system. The only way they can keep up their current buy a new camera system... is if the sensor is so wicked and no one else can do it for a long time... I highly doubt that outcome.

Today I had the pleasure to shoot a commercial with William Shatner right behind Red Studios (at Ben Kitay) on my Epic M. He was more interested in the Epic than the commercial. When he saw the camera and the footage all he could say was "Holy S#*!, how can that little camera do that?". All I could think to say was, "Star trek" :-). I am excited to see what is still to come.

I got to spend some quality time with an Epic today, I really have not had much of a hands on before today. The difference between the RED One and the Epic is huge when it comes to UI and size and capability. It is mind boggling. Personally I would much rather have a 4k in home monitor than a 1080 3D! The Epic is so far ahead of what most would even fathom to capture today it leaves me speechless. Truly an elegant solution to a film replacement.
