  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Three Axis Gimbal Thread

Hi, we'll add joysticks to the handles for single operator mode as we think this is a more precise way of controlling the rig compared to having the rig just follow the movement of the handle bar with a delay, at least for slow speed movements. The follow frame mode in the Alexmos software will be usable, regardless. For running shots like in the Rock-Steadi video above, the follow frame mode willwork better because of handling reasons.

There are 3 configurable profile presets in the alexmos software. At the moment I'm planning to use the presets like this but I can also create different presets based on your personal preference (like including the follow frame mode):

Preset 1: two operator mode with wireless RC control
Preset 2: single operator mode with analog joysticks at the handles
Preset 3: wireless RC control mode but with reversed motor directions for overslung mode with the pan motor below the camera

The overslung mode is mainly thought to put the rig on a steadicam sled. I'll offer a steadicam bracket which can be used instead of the handles and will give a easy and fast way to change between the handles or to mount it on a steadicam. Mount it on a steadicam sled will solve 3 problems at once: it will remove the foodsteps, help to carry the rig in general and also to hold it at eye level for longer takes.

The pan motor will be disconnectable with a lemo connector and the pan axis fixable so you can use the system in 2-axis configuration as well. That will allow for whip pans on the steadicam or also handheld.

Very exciting to hear Andreas!

We some cool operating modes using bluetooth connectivity and our own smartphone app (expected release around October). Also, we already have a 'Follow Mode' similar to the Movi's Majestic mode except you can apply it to any combination of the three axis. You can use our custom GUI to adjust how organic or precise you want responsiveness using simple sliders. At the moment this can be adjusted via bluetooth and a PC/MAC and then a smartphone once our app is released.

@Jagz: Price Point is being announced at the end of this week. It's going to be really competitive considering the specs of the BeSteady FOUR.

@Nick: This seems to be a common misconception but it really isn't the case. Whilst you can make a simple stabiliser on a budget, making a high performance gimbal is a real engineering challenge. Apart from the bolts and wires, everything on the BeStady is custom designed and manufactured to incredible precision. It's something we're really proud of. Even the carbon fibre is rolled to our specifications and other construction elements are milled within super low tolerances at our own facility.

We'll be releasing visualisations this week for those of you that want to know more. Please keep sending us feedback and questions. It's something we've encouraged on our Facebook and we've already implemented features suggested by our community.

Thanks!

Thanks Ryan! Here is a short video with footage from recent tests and projects. I began with extensive testing and build units for first buyers and beta testers so more footage will come soon.
Next week will be a project with the Epic.

Best regards,
Andreas

Hi Andreas,
If you need some beta testers in Europe, I would be pleased to try your equipement... And of course to buy one of your first unit.
I guess I'm not the only one begging for that but don't hesitate to contact me if you're interested.
Best regards,
Vincent.

Andreas if you need any beta testers in Texas I'm here!
I'm planning to shoot a documentary of a lacrosse team, and a short film around 30 minutes filled with handheld so I'm looking for a gimbal!

Thanks,
Berkeley

Happy September to all,

A very exciting deal is coming this week!

Stay tuned...

Thank you! At the moment we work on the final version which should be available in the second half of September. When you order then you presumably will have your system 4 weeks later.

I started a thread about the Portahead 5 here: http://www.reduser.net/forum/showth...tabilizer-will-be-available-in-the-next-month

When do you plan to start your projects? If you need the system earlier please send me a message but I won't be able to provide photos before we finished the final production version. I order the parts on demand and that's why I'd need to ask beta testers to take the material costs which will be redound to a eventual purchase, later.

Best regards,
Andreas

Seen this on http://cinescopophilia.com
The chicken video I could not stop LOL.
It all ways amazes me things all around us. That we can be blind to see how they can be implemented, in to things to help out every day things.

Has anyone used one of these on a Steadicam? Seems like that might be a very useful combination, since it would add stability and distribute the weight of the rig much more effectively. Of course, then you add the weight of the Steadicam.

The gimbal developed by ProLine and me will offer different ways to use it with a steadicam... after all, ProLine is a steadicam manufacturer :)

i can't wait to see this to compare to others and see how this will fit in for me.
Proline seems to make real nice hi end equipment so I expect this to be well made.
I held off from buying a steadicam to see who would do just this, and still need to learn more on how to use a steadicam.
With gimbals I was going to jump on the movi but end up having better experience dealing with Defy so I jumped on the G5 for the nikon D800.

Hi Everyone. These Gimbal's are all very tempting. As much as I would love to own one so that I can get very good at using one I feel that after the novelty of it wore off I would feel like I wouldn't use it enough to justify the investment when there is always something else you must buy coming out all the time. I was wondering once these get out into the marketplace what you all expected the rental price of these to be say for 3 days or a week at a time? I am thinking that I would be better off renting one when needed and maybe a week is enough to experiment and actually use in a production.
