  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The SPINNER really is a BAD A^$#@S EVF mount...So is my Custom CLUTCH Shoulder rig!!

Hi Ketch. A million thank you's for all your posts and pictures. I thought I was a relatively intelligent person until I tried to mount a Spinner.

My pleasure Breet, I always do what I can to share what I do, when I do it, right or wrong I enjoy it and hope most of you do too... ;)

Is the camera not too high with that shoulder pad?
It looks like the lens would be higher than the eye line. So, you would probably have to lower yourself a little bit to be at or slightly below eye line.

I like the shoulder pad, looks nice and soft. But, the dovetail plate that comes with it is SO expensive!
Is there a way to attach a cheaper dovetail piece on the shoulder pad frame instead of getting the kit for $1,100!? The dovetail itself is costing around $900

It would be for the Red Quick Release with the Dovetail

The pics of this rig were done without adjusting the EVF, and I had my head tilted up, but when properly extended to be in perfect horizontal position in line of th eeye, the head remains also horizontal, and not titled up, and then the set up is also perfectly aligned with it, so, no, it is not too high, it is at the exact hight that it should be to allow for a perfect positioning, and the Lens it is indeed at the same level of the eye.

As for your other question, the Shoulder pad is form the Mantis line from Element Technica, and the rest is form the RED Clutch system, and no, because the actual Axis design of this Shoulder Pad needs to swivel, and it is made specifically for the ET Dovetail, you can't mount it on anything else then the ET Dovetail that was designed for, which in turn accepts Arri standard Dovetail Plate, such as the RED DSMC Quick Release Plate.

Okay thanks.
I wasnt looking at how your head was angled as I know thats not how you have it now, nor is it the most comfortable way. It was just the height of the camera. In the picture it is slightly tilted down, but if it was straight, it would look like the middle of the lens was just above your eye line. - If the actors were the same height as you (which often is with me) then it would be slightly above. But, you said its at eye height which is good then.

Are those 18" rods?
With a follow focus & and a mattebox, will just one Red Brick be enough counterbalance if going for a rig like that?

Okay, but don't worry, even in its strait position the lens will be at eye level.

Yes those are the RED Carbon X 18" 19mm RODS.

Because of the MP's being so heavy, one big brick was not enough, and for this I positioned further back, but then I really hate when the rig becomes stupidly long just to counter balance, making it impossible or very difficult to move about in tight spaces, so I either tape a weight under it on the back, or change configuration, but since I'll be using the Meizler then this will no longer pose a problem, and I am still looking for the perfect Shoulder rig, as this one I had set up in this pics, didn't turned out to be as great as I tough after several uses.
