  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The SPINNER really is a BAD A^$#@S EVF mount...So is my Custom CLUTCH Shoulder rig!!

...And the answer is ... YES!!

Just tried on the newly arrived ET Hybrid plate with custom holes for the mounting of the in Atom upright position... ;)

You are all good Bastiaan
Yeah, (just found the best fitting smiley for this, since this is what I'm doing right now) :willy_nilly: that is great news, many thanks for testing this Ketch!

I have a battery belt clip and a homebrew handlebar system for my Red One and I can tell you that the battery belt clip is a godsend. I can push the camera back so the center of it's considerable mass os over my shoulder while wearing the battery around my waist (usually to the back) rarely causes a problem.

Ketch, two months have gone by since your observations on the clutch (ie: uncomfortable). Do you still feel the same way now? Have you had any conversations with Red staff regarding ergonomics and how you think things feel or should feel. I'm not talking about technical aspects fo the camera and accessories, I'm talking about how they work in the field in your hands, shoulders, back, neck, etc. You don't look particularly comfortable in this photo. Or is this how you shoot all day long (sans that pick thing coming out of your mouth). What does Red staff tell you?

Ideal EVF position

Ideal EVF position

For off the shoulder shooting I tend to like the EVF lower and farther forward than most of the mounting solutions I have seen to date. Gibby got me turned on to a mounting strategy on the ET Mantis that put the rod clamp down on the front of the dovetail. It was great unless you had FF & MB clearance issues.

The slider interface on the rig Ketch did looks good as a start but its not enough by itself (nor, I would guess, was it intended to be). I'd like to use that slider as a way to control distance from the side of the camera to the EVF, then have a vertical swat rail (or equivalent) attached to it with a spinner (or similar) and then have another spinner with another swat rail to move it fore and aft. I have been wanting to experiment with this but my Epic is on a feature rental and AFAIK the spinners are not shipping in quantity yet.

Looking forward to the new AKS that Jim referred to in a recent thread, perhaps there's a way to do this that would require fewer individual parts.

Cheers - #19

HI Tim,

yes I did discuss this with the guys, and I am sure there will be additional pieces coming, including a different or a series of different Shoulder pads, hopefully one of them will be an adjustable one,
as I really Love the RED CLUTCH, and more time passes by the more I love it, I have configured in so many different ways its not even funny, and the adding of ET's shoulder pad and dovetail form the Mantis was a
decision also made based on the fit of the needs of the production of my friend Luca Immesi for his Debutting film "VIrtual" were the CLUTCH is now happily shooting on a daily basis.

The Top Adjustable PRO mount was a prototype that Matt give me upon my departure to Italy few months back, I see that it has not made to the store, which could be because it was simply a prototype and awaiting finalization of its design, or was just one of those extra pieces that will not make it in to production in its current design, and it is undergoing a redesigning, but I love it, and I now have it most of the time on our Epic, with the Canon mount, as it allows for both the LCD and the Spinner for the EVF to be mounted on comfortably plus allow still for the Top Handle to be mounted as well, while still leaving more room for mounting other stuff on the opposite side, love it, and I hope it makes it to the store soon so you guys can have it too... ;

Yes Blair, I agree with you and it is not intended to be used as it is in the above pictures, as that was a set up for a tripod mount, and then I went and slider in to the Hybrid Clutch and so it did not made the comfortable lower mount position, but as it is it cane pushed away and lower, just didn't do it, plus a Nato rail plate can be mounted which Red now has the extra long ones too.

Any news if the top adjustable pro mount is going to make it to the store?

Hey Chad, this is a question only the boys form RED can answer, as agin what I have is a prototype Matt had worked on, and not sure if this is to be the final design, or to be worked on, or if it will be actually going to production,
all I know is that there is a ton of stuff coming out and I wanted all... he he.

looks awesome, Ketch!

Thanks Pawel, after so much mounting and dismounting of the various pieces of the CLUTCH I now have a better understanding of how great this shoulder rig really is and how its flexibility
allows for so much more then any other Shoulder mount... LOVE IT!!

The ET EVF mount was a great mount but for the very small size of the new Bomb EVF Pro was way too big, so right before I left Matt, hook me up with a Spinner kit.. MATT YOU ROCK!!

I absolutely think this little pice of invention is going to make me and my assistant camera or second camera operator very happy,
on this set up I didn't add a Nato railing, didn't need to, but you add 100 or 140mm Nato rails.

Also some of you might have read that I had some issues with the Clutch shoulder pad and was unable to use the Chest and Back pads do to my health issues and bone problems,
but since I absolutely love everything else about the Clutch, I looked desperately to find a solution to use an adjustable pad, while keeping all other elements of the Clutch,
so to take advantage of its mounting options.

So what I came up with is a Marriage of the Clutch, the ET Mantis Pad and dovetail, and a little piece that was given to me as gift by WOODEN CAMERA,
which unbelievably seemed made perfectly for this exact purpose, so thanks again to the guys form WOODEN CAMERA... ;)

Of course the back Hot swap Battery plate from Bebob Rouge and the Super large 210 Battery from Italian company Blueshape, is there now,
but gone as soon as we get the REDVOLT... ;)

Here are few pics of the SPINNER and my new RED CLUTCH/ET MANTIS/WOODEN CAMERA SHOULDER RIG!!

Hi Ketch,

Love your rig, so thanks a lot for putting up those detailed pictures. I will now be assembling a similar one. Can you let me know why you didn't use the ET Mantis handles? Was is just that you like the ones from RED or was there something particularly uncomfortable about how they performed?

Thanks
Antonio

Antonio, the reason for no using ET's handles is because they are not that good at all, vs. RED's new handles which they are just absolutely Fantastic!!

However the ET's shoulder mount those seat too high, and after many used days on the field, this configuration does not work good at all,
but the full CLUTCH systems now does much better with few modifications, and with the new battery module will put the back weight more in balance
and make the CLUTCH much nicer to sue, however remains the strong desire that RED does comes out with an optional Swivel Shoulder Pad,
which allows for shoulder adjustment so to perfectly fit the individual user's shoulder, for a far better prolonged use of the CLUTCH.
