It looks to me that right now that RED ONE is in a sandwich between:

On top>>> another high-end professional HD digital cameras (Sony F35, Panavision Genesis, Arri D-21,...),

in a middle is >> RED ONE,

on bottom>> Canon EOS 7D (also captures Full HD video at 30p (29.97 fps), 24p (23.976 fps) and 25p with an array of manual controls,

including manual exposure during movie shooting and ISO speed selection.)

What do you think how RED will respond to this situation in the next few months?

Your well-reasoned comment is much appreciated here?

Mysterium-X, for starters! We know 5K is alive, it can't be long now.

Any comment?

What's your rationale behind not classifying RED One as high end?

RED is only ONE.

If we get Mysterium-X upgrade ASAP then the top and bottom part of the sandwich you can easily throw.

Take just a middle part of the sandwich that could be RED1-X (higher ISO and one or two DR stops more)!!!

I think RED produces as good if not better images and has more workflow options than the "high end" cameras you've mentioned. I think that gives them a stronger foothold in their market than their competitors. When you consider how many Red Ones they've sold for a company of their size... seems pretty obvious that it's the big guys that have had to step up and respond to what Red has done, much less about the other way around.

I think Red ranks higher! It shoots 4k some of the others shoot only 1920x1080. I have many Red shoots where we push in on the 4k image.

My 2 cents.

There have been several times where I created close ups out of MS/WS to solve editorial problems when the coverage wasn't there. I've solved continuity issues, been able to create more tension or emphasis in an edit, even sell a shot to a client by featuring their product better in the composition. The punch-in aspect of the Red One is terrific, and that does make it a more flexible camera in that regard.

The best part of any sandwich is in the middle:

And that is simply RED ONE-X (hope is coming soon or shortly after IBC)...???!!!

Epic and Scarlet like a RED next step in a professional digital acquisition can take more time to get the best for their release...!!!???

with all the REDs coming (scarlet and EPIC variety of flavours) it seems like RED is trying to build a club-house sandwich of TOP to BOTTOM. I believe, however, that there will be room at both the high end and low end of the market for others. RED succeeded SO FAST because they created a middle end. AND because that middle end 'looks' more like high end than low end, but the prices were closer to low end.
