  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The single greatest SHOT ever...?

eheheheheh well seen.. i am too much idiosyncratic.. :)

most valuable?.. under what viewpoint?.. art of pictures?.. what sort of pictures or art are you talking about?.. for who?

so silly that i will not comment.

btw..
art is not mere politics
politics is not art

How much it was sold for on a per frame!

Posted before, but apparently the site I linked to doesn't like being linked to so let's try again...

Style over substance in all it's glory.

Just plain and simply awesome.

100% Badass.

A lot of people praise the rain shot, but I've always preferred this one as it just works on so many levels for the story, the characters, and the audience all in one simple dolly back.

thanks for re-posting

I really like that first shot and the last one.

Was that last one from Seven? I can't remember... I am quite sure it is, but from what part? It is killing me...

Shawshank redemption, if I remember correctly.

Correct. Near the end when the Warden pulls the pretty picture off the wall revealing how Andy escaped in addition to functioning as a reaction shot.

Theres many great shots but I think this sequence was one of my favourites.

I'm amazed I havent seen a picture of the craneshot from Citizen Kane where the camera enters the night club through the roof window.

I love a lot of shots from Lebowski, fx. Maude on the track, Saddam handing out shoes and etc. Also Tarkovsky is the master of beautiful shots (though I have to admit I dozed off about 3 times during Stalker, not a bad movie as such but you need to be on speed to stay awake through it :S). Also I quite like some shots in Barton Finch mainly with John Turturro and Goodman sitting on the bed with the hotel on fire.

On a more unknown film the cinematography in Nói Albinói (icelandic film http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0351461/) really shows a picture far too rare in films... snowy small town.

Other beautiful films: Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, Dark Knight, Harakiri, Psycho, Léon, Dolls (by Beat Takeshi), Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, Rashomon and modern times.

Beauty > Message.

There was another shot I hoped to find, but, unfortunately, it was nowhere to be found in the trailer; and, my Mac won't let me take screenshots when a DVD is playing.

Anywho.

How could I read this thread and not leave my mark?
From two different cultures, I choose La Haine and OldBoy

La Haine – The Bathroom Mirrors scene

and we cut to ...

... and Impagliazzo beat me to this film, although I chose a different shot.
OldBoy – Scene where he wakes up on a grassy korean rooftop in a suitcase

Have enjoyed everyone's selections. Awesome thread.

Probably my favorite dolly move ever.

That's a very good example. Thanks for including it here.

One shot I can't watch without getting goosebumps is the small crane lift in the 'Singin' in the rain' sequence in wel... 'Singin' in the rain'
I can't make a grab right now, but it's the moment where Gene Kelly jumps onto the street from the curb and there's a very small crane up while he circles with his umbrella. It's timed so perfectly with the music that it ALWAYS gets me.

Oh, and Twin Suns of Tatooine of course. Hope, dreams and longing. All in three single shots.
