  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Schedule.

I noticed that a couple people stated that they were happy that they would be getting their camera with the 18-85mm zoom. As I recall, for the time being, that lens is delayed indefinately. Am I missing something? I thought that the two zooms that are expected to be released were the 18-50 and the new 50-150.

The 18-50mm CF T3 (f2.8) lens will be available immediately with the shipments of the 1st cameras. The 50-150mm T3 (f2.8) lens will likely be available at years' end. The 18-85mm T3 (f2.8) lens is still in the works. We are hoping for mid-2008. The Prime lens set is scheduled for years' end or 1st of 2008. Hope that helps. Remember, all could change tomorrow. :-)

Jim

A reservation for the 18-85mm may be swapped for the 18-50mm, right?

Thanks Jim

Thanks Jim

Thanks Jim for your wonderful effort. I have not booked any cameras but i am ordinant fan of RED from it debuts in NAB 2006. I love to see anyone of the first 50 cameras booked are from India, where i live.

May the force be with you Jim.

I'm so glad your zoom lens goes down to 18mm. I've been doing some stills with the 24-70mm L series Canon EF and while it's a nice lens, there are many time I just want to go wider.

At least there should be rental units available before the end of this year for those of us who can't afford to buy one just yet.

Jim,

What are our chances of getting some "tactile knowledge" of the accessories before we buy them. In other words, how can we try building the camera and setting up different accessories.

I'm willing to take a leap of faith on the body, I think that's a known quantity. But for the rest it's like I'm buying a car and I can't sit in it even in the showroom. Lenses in particular are really important to me, especially in terms of mechanical performance. While the RED primes are much less expensive than their alternatives, they are still an investment that needs to be thoroughly researched.

I would second this thought. Could an early unit be kept as a demo model so res holders could come and put their config together. This would clarify all those little questions for any user who needed definative answers about how their config would work for their own requirements.
The obvious flaw with this plan is that you would have 2000 appointments to work through which could take a couple of years right there.

Thanks Jim & RED crew,
december will be fine... 4 months of commercial before movie season.
782 & 783 will be my best xmas present ever!

Ciao Carlo

That's great to hear the prime lens set and the 50-150 will be available roughly by the start of 2008, since I should get my RED sometime a month or two after the start of the year, and I really need that equipment. For me it's probably perfect to get the camera when I am, because I don't have any cine lenses now and I really need what RED is offering, plus I'd rather have a fully feature-enabled camera.

Thanks Jim&Crew.

A couple of months and the first Redones will land on the planet Heart.

Seems incredible.

Hoping to see you all in Amsterdam in Sept.

My best, Corrado.

Red Tour?

Red Tour?

Perhaps one will be in the works, but a Red Tour to major cities along the lines of the Apple FCP/Suite tour would be a fine way to get some seminar hands-on time with the camera, lens(es) and accessories. That would help reservation holders finalize purchasing choices and not swamp the Red team with 4,000 users coming to the offices.

Screw all you level-headed fanboys. I am gonna miss the best magic hour shooting light of the whole year (late august/early september) in time for October or more realistically November. :)

At least the project is still happening.

Merry Christmas (#1008) and a Happy New Year (#1248) to me!

This is awesome. Right in the sweet spot. The early users should have all of the bugs and the workflow issues completely resolved by then, so that we can just shoot, edit, and deliver.

All you res holders just make sure you post what the hands on experience is here as soon as you can! I'm positive that the results will only make it that much harder for those of us who are gonna wait out the first wave to get one that's fully stocked in our hands.

I know these dates are still tentative, but it gets the excitement going again to have a time to look forward to. I appreciate all the hard work RED is doing. Its gonna rock.

Now we can all relax, (or get back to work making that RED money).
Merry Christmas to me :)
Thanks Jim and the RED Team.

Taxes disaster!

Taxes disaster!

I have reservation number #1473 which puts me in the "until 10th of January" window. How likely is it to receive the camera before the end of December?

It is very important for me to understand if having the number 1473 means my camera will arrive between 10th of December to 10th of January. A few weeks will make a huge difference to me as a lot of the money i am saving for the camera and the lens-set will have to go for the (2007) taxes if it arrives in January 2008.

It could be a damage of as much as 10.000 euro to me.

Please Red team. Can you clarify a bit on the serial numbers 1201- 1700 situation?

Jim,

Not that this is your area, but I'm glad you are trying to contact all your customers in regards to building their final order before it ships.

BUT, how about the customers trying to contact Red? I've called and sent e-mails the past few weeks to no avail. I'm guessing because the company was piecing things together to try and get the schedule out...I just hope when I call next I'll be able to talk to someone, not an answering machine.

Every customer is important, and I know you know that more than anyone else. When banks ask why I'm doing such a big purchase, they need proof of accessories, etc! LOL....I hope Kelly gets back to me soon!
