  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Schedule.

I presume Jim has figured into his dates some time to consider feedback from the beta tests otherwise what would be the point.

I'll second the God Speed to the Betas though :) it'll be great to see movies produced that can be used as demonstrations for clients... they'd better be good!!!

Alright, I've gotta complain about one aspect of this launch schedule. I put in a reservation (two reservations actually) with the first bunch of reservation holders, during the October '06 deadline. My res numbers were assigned in the 700's, yet the 700's are being lumped into the December release with all of the late-arrival reservation holders who jumped in during the second go-round of '07.

So how about some lovin' for the guys that were in the first reservation batch, and nudge that November release cap up to #800.

Hi Lowkus

I, too ordered in the first batch, and have #930...

I don't imply that I don't think you deserve yours earlier than me, though. Jyst as a FYI.

Cheers

i say we just ship the first 1000 on the same day ...
then 1001-2000 on same date ..
then we don't ship 2001 -3000 till they are all sold ..
same with 3001-4000 ...
they have to ship 1000 at a time or nothing !!!
we can call it the 1k ship policy ???

What 'bout #930? -;)

Hey. The good news is that everything is dishing out real well.
I have to admit I have been expecting the delay since somewhere around late December of last year (no, no disbelief, but just seeing how things kept on track... in a narrow way -;) Or so it seemed - I may be way off!

I was amazed about the NAB screening and preview of working Reds, but the nonincluded features 'cept for quick previews enabled by some of the staff - according to reports, more than hinted at a delay.

And so what?

We now get field-tested cameras, hopefully with implemented features due to the response from the beta-testers.

And the price is - thus far - untouched since the first announcement of a schedule.

I sincerely hope I'll have a Red by this time next year, and for the time being I think I might have one this December - but no way I'm selling off my other equipmentor or closing time-dependant deals with anyone - depending on Red, before I have a plain confirmation in my hand.

The only - little - frustration I have, is that I'd like to start market the camera a bit from August, and at the moment I'm a bit unsure how I can do that. I'll probably wait till Gibby has taken delivery -;)

Cheers!
And all the best to you hard workers!

Pre-production cameras aren't good enough for the customers, but they're good enough to shoot a major motion picture?

I saw this too, but it makes sense. Traditional 35mm film cameras in reality have just a start/ stop button, a lens and an eyepiece. Sound is recorded externally by a sound guy, exposure is metered, focus is measured ect. I guess a pre-production RED will do exactly what a standard 35mm film camera will do (maybe a bit more).

However, try shooting a doc or indie without the large support crew, and the labor saving modern bells and whistles (on camera sound, focus assist ect..) and it becomes more obvious why the limited feature set would work for a studio but maybe not an individual customer.

:mail1: my 2 cents

Yeah, I agree Ed. Good points... It was late and having re-read the schedule post it just jumped out at me as somewhat ironic.

Yeah that makes sense. I mean they really take everything into consideration when shooting with film, everything is done manually, but for me if it makes sense I'd rather record audio right to the camera than have to buy a hard drive or DAT to record sound to separately and then bother with syncing it up in post. That is a huge pain in the butt and costs me more money.

Thanks Jim I will receive mine as present for new year!

About the movie cameras...

About the movie cameras...

So If I want to get a camera for film production, and place my order now... when would I be getting my camera ?

My guess.... March 10th 2008, I booked mine September last year and will get it (hopefully) around November 10th this year, so you´ll be lucky to only wait 8 months... But it will be worth it!
