  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The R90

nice!!!!! it mine when it comes out deff. Ive been shooting sideways allot with my red

It's certainly cool.

... but what exactly is it for?

nice, but ...

nice, but ...

It needs a mod to maintain the axis of the lens - would be great for those rotating hallway shots if it could stay on access. was that built originally for the R1? Or am I missing something? Is this a Red product?

What a great idea. Please add an LED ringlight option for an extra $199 !!

Hopefully there's a better/lower profile LCD cable in the works:-) Everything looks great otherwise. Here's hoping for Epic by spring !

Don't get me wrong ... it looks very cool, and it awesome to see something posted.

Thanks Jarred.

Like Andrew, I noticed that it does not maintain a centralized axis throughout it's tilt, and I wonder if this type of device would really be adopted for simply turning the camera to a 90 degree position.

There are already some great ways to mount a digital camera sideways (Deadly Calavera, L-Bracket, Red side handles) for increasing usable resolution while shooting green screen effects.

Still photographers rarely switch back and forth from portrait and horizon on a tripod. More often you see that on a monopod. Otherwise, most of that is done while the camera is in hand.

neat to see the canon lens on there...

and the different cable jacket??

Can you program different stop points into that arc, or does it only do the one 90 turn?

Neato. There might be a little room for horizontal adjustment, can't tell from this. Vertical adjustment would need some kind of riser. I'd prefer the offset anyway, myself. Maybe this should be called the Dutch-Seasick 3000. :)

heh heh good eye..

about the center axis.. From my experience its not as necessary as people think. You will notice that most ball heads when positioned in their right angle position are off axis. Balanced weight distribution is much more important ( IMHO ). Many photographers would switch from portrait to landscape on a tripod if they could.. In fact, there are a ton of brackets out there for use on tripods that make you release the cameras and rotate and re-lock.. this makes things much more fluid and simple, specially when you have a full kit with matte box etc.

Good point.

However, Sanjin better take his Swiss Army knife off his camera before he uses this ... or somebody's going to get hurt. :w00t:
