Just like copying lighting setups from other DPs. I wonder sometimes if publishing lighting setups should be verboten. Describing lighting problems is great, but if you publish the setups, others will just copy them without understanding them. That isn't being helpful, IMO. Just thinking aloud.
 
Most good chefs know that the recipe is only part of the story.

The execution, the seasoning in that particular situation or even choosing which recipe to go to. All of those choices have just as much impact on the end result.

It just seems like some younger cinematographers these days believe that they can reduce every look of every film into a few variables, what camera did they use, What lenses did they use, what lighting did they use and what Lut did they use and is it available for sale. It's like , to use your recipe analogy John, if you add A+B+C+D=(The Identical look and feel of the Film you want to duplicate). No additional hard work, Skill /Talent or the additional skills of numerous other people are required.

I started this thread because I think most people these days don't think of making films and telling stories as an ART. We all have access to the same materials and equipment but we don't all use them the same way. One of the ways that sets some people apart from others in telling stories visually is their uses of colors along with lighting and composition. Filmmaking is more than just exposing properly and pressing the RECORD BUTTON to start and stop filming, it's how you convey specific emotions in different scenes and at different key points in the Story, The usage of certain colors in different combinations can do exactly that. That's one of the reasons I spend alot of time trying to find different Color correction techniques and different color correction tools.
