  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The pitfalls...

Jim,

Those of us who are cool with it usually don't say much and get back to business. Those of us who complain about it dwell far too long and waste a lot of time. Bottom line, we support you.

I believe between Red and their customers a mutual respect is the best answer for all issues. It's all about balance. Where would we be without each other?

Keep up the good work... and looking forward to the 1.8" SSD options for R1:devil:

You guys are the best, don't forget it. Trust in RED, I've done so on hundreds of jobs now and will continue to do so. Can't wait for the next wave, you guys rock!

We really put ourselves in a precarious position. (I guess that really means me.)

We decided to "talk out loud". We speak what we are thinking every day instead of doing it like everyone else. I made that decision based on what pissed me off with the other companies. Problem is... that gets us into trouble most of the time. We think it, we say it... has it's pitfalls.

I have assumed that "everything can and will change" would cover it. Truth is that someone remembers every word that was spoken. It is quite a heavy burden.

I won't change a thing. I just hope our customers are forgiving and take everything into consideration. Life evolves. So does RED. You guys just see it realtime. There is no precedent for this type of interaction. There is no filter, no strategy. We are just winging it. How about that...

All I can say is we are swinging for the fences every time at bat. We are just too dumb to know what not to do.

I have a camera here (Ace) that is everything I have ever dreamed of and more. It is currently shooting HDRx™™™. It shoots normal mode 5K at 120fps. I have graded ISO 50,000 images. It is the size of a Hasselblad, although a bit heavier. I could die now a happy man... almost. All we need to do is get this camera in the hands of our customers. Then I would be happy. Until something else comes up.

I really appreciate everyone's patience. I know we have used up every ounce of it.

Jim
This is comforting, knowing that you have the camera you have lusted for. That shows that, albeit in only a few cameras, everything pretty much works and the rest is just mainly production and logistics and accessory supply.

This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius... the age of Aquarius... Aquarrrrr-iiiii-UHHHHSSSS!

afterthought: Is the new movie "Red" being shot on RED?

been following since dvxuser days, now following reduser days and beyond.. I know I will own a Scarlet someday, that alone makes me a happy man..

This forum is full of intelligent people that appreciate the hard work and technical innovations you and your team will bring to us once again.

The camera you describe is very much worth the wait...and we will wait until you are ready to release it!

If anyone watched SNF this week you saw HDR in action with the time lapse of the golden gate bridge...that was of course a still camera and software application...HDRx with moving frames built into the software will be another milestone for RED...
Please keep telling us about your triumphs and set-backs...I really wish I could be in the lab helping to bring Epic to life... your words of wisdom are always welcome!

Best Regards
Dave

I love the updates and info. I've learned a ton from this forum, so I'm pretty stoked on Red and reduser.net. I gotta say that the bitching and moaning would really get to me if I was reading and responding to it all the time, though. Hopefully the positive and encouraging comments make up for it.
Thanks

Man, perhaps I need to read your words again!

What I heard was:

We are building your camera, we sincerely hope you will like and use it as much as we hope. And thank you for your understanding.

Did I read anything bad into what you said:)

Besides, as I keep posting, I get my MX'd Red back this week (I hope), so I have a new camera to play with anyway:)

Some of us (count me in the group) would rather hear from an honest human being than a corporate public relations department. It's the little flaws and imperfections that elevate the merely pretty to the beautiful.

A unique company doing unique things with a unique product is bound to have a ... unique philosophy.

I'm happy to be away from the closed-shop paradigm of mass-production and its boring efficiency for a half-way house product.

Keep doing.

Keep it up guys. How could anyone not like the philosophy of RED?

I've been silently following this site shortly before the announcement of Scarlet. I'd never known of a company more open with it's users and future users. Especially, considering it's possible to communicate directly to the top dogs. I've learned more about shooting technicalities by visiting RED than any other forum. This site is packed with valuable information, let alone revolutionary cameras in the making.

I'm sold. Period.

A monstrous thanks to all you maniacs at RED. I'll be patiently waiting.

In RED we trust...at least I do.

Do not change your ways.

Jim Jannard,

You are an innovator of both digital cameras and contemporary business ethics. Never stop being you. You are fully appreciated. Your judgment is trusted. You have always been a man to listen to reason above all else. Do what you must.

Just commenting... that is one of the pitfalls, someone reads something into everything. :-)

Jim

I am sorry if my share of doing that tires you Jannard. To be honest, it is too much fun!

Would you rather have me wasting my time watching some crap reality show than here on reduser? Don't answer that. :)

On a serious note though, you should know there are many of us that have written you a blank patience check and won't have an ounce of a problem as long as you keep swinging for the fences!

I love my camera. You made that. For me. You're making the next camera I will love as much or even more. Take your time, get it right - but you are already going to do that any way.

Thanks again - and I owe you whiskey. REALLY good whiskey...
