We started shooting my new short titled "The ones who have loved" yesterday. I'm very exited about this one, and I thought I'd share some thoughts and pictures during production, which will continue througout the summer. The movie is an hommage to love, the ups and downs, and will run something like 5 minutes. Ask away if you have any questions, and I'm happy for any feedback.

We plan to travel around quite a bit if sponsoring works out, so if you have a nice spot you can recommend for a romantic scene, let me know. Or if you want to be part of this journey and have some toys you think we could use, well - we'd sure appreciate your involvment.

So I'll start off with a couple of images of yesterday's shoot. Bed scene, very simple set up in our studio since weather was not on our side. Enjoy!

5K WS, 5:1, ISO 400, 25fps project frame base, 50fps throughout the movie. RED PRIME PROs, 35mm, 85mm and 100mm. No filter. Flares in-camera using an LED torch. No grading, just a first light using RCX.

I like the pureness of these shoots, well done my friend! I have few questions if you don't mind..

-Is it the epic or scarlet? I heard that the Scarlet compression is not as good as the epic compression, and that the epic is "cleaner"..

-Is it Red gamma 4 or red cine x?

And my last one for today :

-What is your feeling about this dragon comparing to Mx (or even Alexa if you have an opinion about that)

I heard so much beautiful things about the dragon sensor, but to be honest, i didn't saw any footage that blew me away or that can't be achieved by Mx (the documentary about David Beckham looks crazy but the colorist is great)..

Ow, i've almost forgot, is the low light capability improved or not at all?

Thanks a lot, i can't wait to see your finished short film ;)

Thanks Mendes. Of course, happy to try to answer all the questions you guys have.

It's the EPIC DRAGON. Can't really comment on how it compares to Scarlet DRAGON, all I CAN say that I am very pleased with my baby...

It's DRAGONcolor - REDgamma4

DRAGON really is a whole different beast to me. I love how it handles highlights, the colors, skintones. As many have said before, it just feels different compared to MX. MX is a great camera, DRAGON is just better. Alexa - I really like the images coming out of the Alexa. It's a great camera and all, I just don't get how people get so stuck with what they know and don't give other tools a chance. If you know how to handle your gear, you get great images no matter what camera. To me, the EPIC DRAGON is the best camera out there, simply because of the image, the size, the bang for the buck, the weight. And I really think DPs need to have a basic understanding what is possible in post. Not saying you should shoot to fix in post, but you have to know what possibilities you have shooting RAW, what you can push, what you can't and so on. But I digress... Love the DRAGON, love what I can do with it.

It's the suble things that do make a difference (roll-off, color...). And there's a lot of shots I couldn't have pulled off with the MX simply because of the DR - DRAGON has more, and you do notice that.

Ow, i've almost forgot, is the low light capability improved or not at all?

Short answer - yes! :)

Tobias, this looks very nice, great shots. Could you tell us litle more about the plot?

Ivan

Thanks Ivan. I don't want to give away too much of the plot, what I can say is that the movie takes on the feelings and moments you live through when you're in love. And I am pleased to report that every time a person reads the script, there's a very strong, emotiional response. Everybody can relate, and it's a joy watching people getting sucked into this.
