  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Next Red Aquisition

AFAIK it was never publicly confirmed, that tech for Soft Shutter in Motion Mount came from Tessive, it might've as well been internal development in that area. Tessive stopped selling Time Filter somewhere around that time, though, maybe just a coincidence...

You may have it right. I looked back through the MM threads and found this quote from Jarred which is what made me think it might not be from Tessive:

Funny how people keep thinking that.. its not the polymer Tessive. Its made out of optical glass, our same glass as we use in our OLPF. Thats how we were able to slip in a layer of IR cut on the front glass and a AR filter on the back to eliminate stray reflections from multiple layers.

But it is pretty ambiguous and the coincidence that they stopped selling theirs says something.

OK - back on topic now... lol

I think there is a bit of missunderstood! Some people in this thread is confussing two different products.
- The speedbooster of metabones reduces the image circle from the full frame lenses to S35 sensors = gains +1stop and sharpness
- The converter of digitaloptik expands the image circle of academic S35 lenses with an image circle of 29 to a FF sensor = loss -1stop and consecuently magnifying glass imperfections.

Doesn't have to be, you can make one for every target image-circle you desire. 1 to 1.2 will probably not gain as much brightness as a 1 to 1.6 does, but it would still allow to use the full fov of a ff lens, and maybe increase sharpness a bit. And then think about having the full ff35-fov in lower res crop-modes for highspeed stuff, or maybe one speedboster that compresses the full image circle of medium format lenses to whats needed for 6k on Dragon? ;)

A medium format to 1.2 crop speed booster. Now that is an idea! Wow. That could be something.

I don't see the point on that, sorry.
If you have to go to medium format lenses, to achive, what? Why not to rent MP, Leica C or Cooke 5/i? You can't go beyond that point. A more open T stop and you will begin to see gosts and things from other world. The magic of speedbooster is that there are many FF glass and many S35 or less sensors. I'ts not for Dragon because is FF, so it would be pointless IMO using it only when croping the sensor.

Nice to have a speed booster when shooting overcranked 2k and such as it brings more light and actually sharpens up our 35mm lenses.
