Back in December of 2006 I wrote a post titled:

The Natives are Getting Restless

I was reacting to a lot of posts on REDUSER after Jim posted about a delay on shipping the RED ONE. Here is that link -

http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=2867

Funny to think about how people felt then - and then think about all the films and television shows being shot in RED MX now.

I'm writing this post now because I'm out here in Los Angeles for a few meetings and I dropped by RED on Monday.

Jim showed me a clip shot in HDRx on EPIC.

My initial reaction was ... OMG - THAT'S AMAZING.

But now, two days later - I just can not stop thinking about what I saw with my own eyes.

I have not seen anything RED-related as significant IMO since I first saw an alpha version of REDCODE working in the booth at IBC 2006.

If EPIC was physically bigger than ALEXA and uglier than Canon's 4K concept camera (not sure if that is possible) - it actually wouldn't matter. The images speak for themselves - and no matter what I post - you guys will eventually see it and you will all understand.

EPIC WILL BE THE MOST SOUGHT AFTER CINEMA CAMERA IN THE INDUSTRY - WORLDWIDE - ALMOST OVERNIGHT

Worth the wait and then some.

Trust me when I say that I can not find words to express how badly I want an Epic in my hands.

I have clients, producers, DPs, even Studios asking me every day .... WHEN can I provide them with Epic cameras.

It's hard to not have an answer.

But I find myself suddenly at peace. I've seen what I needed to see. I've seen the future.

Patience is not easy. It is a virtue.

And patience is not only a virtue but a necessity for a happy existence.

Try it.

I want to personally thank EVERY SINGLE PERSON that works for RED. Please don't listen to the noise - just keep doing what you are doing.

PS - Graeme ... all I can say is ... FUCKING BRILLIANT. Please ship me several gallons of whatever drinking water you have up there in Canada ... I don't know how you do what you do ...

Funny Mark. I was thinking about your post from then, just a few days ago.

I am in the middle of an extensive Alexa vs MX red1 test, and surrounded with all that beautifull imagemaking these two cams represent, I cannot help feeling that they are intermediate steps towards what will come. Both have definite strong sides that the other lack IMO. If you could put them in a bucket and blend them, they'd be a really extraordinary cam, not saying that either is anything like ordinary. Then add some resolution to the soup and we'd get oversampled 4k projection....

And some efficient ways of handling the info and protecting the latitude...

wait...
That sounds like...

The natives are waiting.

Cheers

G

why didnt you come get me and bring me over too...now i am going to have to crack the code and go see it myself.

i had a similar come to jesus moment yesterday in a conversation with our leader, jim, about alexa and although i dont think it is fair to him to share exactly what he said, i will say i now feel exactly the way mark does about the future and epic...

we are all very lucky to be paying attention as we are.

Yeah, the 18+ stops Jim mentioned keeps popping into my head. It's weird, having not seen it yet and only knowing theoretically what it represents, it hasn't really sunk in yet. It makes it more real when people like Mark and Michael (Cioni) describe their experience seeing it.

18+ stops?? Nothing comes close...

It is so well said Mark that deserved a QOUTE He He, can wait, truly can't, got to go back to Italy, he he, and want it and want it NOW!!

My Grand Pa' always told me " GOOD THINGS HAPEN TO THOSE THAT WAIT"

I am waiting and have been waiting and will continue to wait.. WHY?? Because I know what JIM and the RED Team have been doing and are doing will be wort the wait, he he.

Mark being an early adopter of the RED mantra, we trust your observations, even if most of us are jealous of not being in the 'inner circle'. RED is continuing to cause a seismic shift in the industry and our patience will be ultimately well rewarded.

Many thanks to Mark for posting... can't wait to see it first hand! Kudos to the Red team for the accomplishment! I have every faith that Epic will be groundbreaking, and will put all quibbling about MX vs. Meh-lexa, er I mean Alexa, to rest. :)

Best,
Tim

Thank you for posting Mark! It seems like an eternity when we were waiting for our Red One to shoot "Fatal Flaw". But I must say it was more than worth the wait and a game changer for us and where we are today. Patiently awaiting the Epic and many, many thanks to team Red for the long grueling hours you must be putting in to change the history of digital film making!! Looking forward to EPIC!! THANK YOU!!!!

I can manage patience...

Just hope I can manage guessing which month Stage II will hit in terms of financing... Jim said to pay attention.

Money aside, I can hardly wait to get shooting with the Epic!

So I'm stage 2 from sn206, how much patience do I have to have? :)

there is a warm stir in my heart after reading your post. I am so excited for the Scarlet coming after the Epic. Seeing a camera that will go head to head and almost all the time beat cameras 3x its price in features and quality of image is amazing. Its pretty cool when just reading about someone's impression on a camera gets me excited.

Big thanks for the post Mark. You're pretty much RED Customer #0 and official guinea pig so it's always fantastic to hear the inside word.
Definitely feels like there's some impending dopeness on the horizon.
Gallons of kudos and good fortune to everyone at RED - and thanks again Mark.

Fuck yea!

Respectfully,
A proud r3d fanboi

+1 Mark, only it is obvious that we are the ones that should be shipping Graeme the goodies.

And thank you Jim! Without your wild drive and personality none of this would have happened till about 2025!!!

Can't wait to sample this shock inducing goodness with my own eyes.

As I'm a rare REDuser that can see the future and that means everything about Epic I've been already told you before.

Just read and see my posts here at the forum.

They often call me a RED Funboy.

But better to call me a RED Experimentalist.

Also in between I'm a real RED user even I've sold my RED a couple months ago.

Conceptually and financially preparing myself for Epic and Scarlet.

Only no rush and being patient in this case will bring you to the bright future.

Also soon you'll forget all those sort of "Titanic" camera projects that were recently "launched in the cine waters" like an Alexa 2K/HD, Canon 4K, etc,...
