  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The most fun I have ever had...

Jim, I had the opportunity to meet you and shake hands with you at the Red Studios, what an honor!
Thanks for everything.

R.

Many of you know that I started Oakley with $300. Well... that was quite a 30 year ride. Incredible actually...
But I have to say that I have never had so much fun since I starting RED.
This ride is hard to describe. It trumps all others. And nothing is close.
At Oakley... we had an incredible fan base. Still do. At RED... we have an INCREDIBLE fan base! One that inspires us to do our best work times forever.

Well I was a big fan. Riding BMX with Oakley glasses... Big time and also fun...

Well I think RED was a success from the beginning. And still is a big hit.
Only it is not for my budget (anymore). But I'm still a big fan and I still follow the big evolution.
Perhaps one day...

The competition at Oakley was strong. RayBan. Vuarnet. A hundred others. The competition at RED is Sony, Arri... BIG guys. Really BIG guys. And a ton more. Competition on steroids.

There is nothing like real competition to help you decide who you are. Can you lead? Or do you follow? What is the future? Do you define it? Or do you just sink in the abyss of history?

We work 24 hours a day to serve our customers and attempt to deliver the future. When you Google "you have to kill us to beat us"... RED should be the 1st thing you see. If not, Google sucks.

My life has been dedicated to making a difference and delivering the future. You get to decide if we pass or if we fail.

Bring it.

Jim

Good stuff to get up in the morning ... :-)

Jim,

You definitely taken the camera out of the camera house/studio and into Cinematographer's hands.

You allowing the independent filmmaker the freedom to create outside the bounds of the studio system and that's why innovative filmmakers(Fincher, Jackson, Soderbergh) join the Red Army.

I think that in Oakley you made great goals, very nice tools, but that don't change the life of the people, sure that make life easier, but not a strong change their lives.

Now, on Red you really have changed the lives of thousands of professionals who are working in a new complete way. Actually cheaper, easier, insane performance and with an amazing feedback from a company who cares about them.

You have and incredible fan base, well, you've earned it.

PD. Sorry for my english...

Yesterday we brought our Epic to a small fruit market in Kamchatka, Russia and a guy with only 3 gold ( not real gold) teeth came running out from his booth all smiles talking away in Russian and pointing at the Epic around my neck.
Next thing I know he throws his arm around my shoulder and hands his mobile phone to our fixer and wants his picture taken with me and the EPIC.
He was so excited, and it was a lot of fun trying to talk to him. We ended up getting a lot of good b-roll in that market.

So RED is obviously known in the most remote places on the planet. Well done!

I think the fact that the others are only doing what you did 7 years ago speak louder then words. Regardless of which camera is being used Alexa or Red, it's you guys who are dictating where we are headed, and WE are grateful for it. If it were not for your vision, 1080 and 2k would be all we'd know. I'm amazed at how slow the competition is on the uptake, so many of the new cameras are compromises, not actually capable of recording 4k despite what they say. It's amazing that GOpro gets it more then these guys.

Lets see some serious tests not comparing other camera, but to see if we are finally ahead of film. Maybe it's time you get that Oscar.

No offense but I imaging that Sony, Arri, Canon and others see you and your Company as a "Pain in the a$$" you annoy them, keep them up at night, tossing and turning in their big feather beds. They think to themselves "why don't they just go away" they secretly admire you but never want to admit it, they don't like you and wish you were never born or wish Red never happened. Now they have to figure out how to live in the same community with you, smile and shake your hand then grumble under their collective breaths as they walk away. Keep it up, keep being that annoying, pain in the a$$, keep doing what your doing. Maybe a few suits will hate you but thousands of guys and gals in tee shirts love you.

One of my fondest EPIC memories is going through the security in Amsterdam, and having the security with clear anxiety say sir, it is important we check your bag right now!!! Some worried passenger heard and also wanted to know what was in it. When I opened the bag, he said to the officer next to him, get Bas urgently!!! The passenger moved off quickly thinking something bad was going to happen. A few shouts out loud to a officer on the other-side of the room got every bodies attention. Bas came running, shouting what do we have!!! The excited guys shouted back AN EPIC, and some exchange in Dutch!!! Bas broke into a run, and the whole terminal was now trying to find a place to duck or hide before this EPIC went off. Bas was excited as the other guy. Bas looked at me, and said, do you mind sir if I hold it just once?? I have been waiting for one of these to come through here, and this is the first! He handled with extreme car, posed for a picture, and said his day was made. I think about 10 people on the flight asked me what an epic was, and why it was so special. I'm sure I said something cheesy like it makes dreaming possible or something like that.

I think you are 100% right!

Jim, the high point of this NAB was getting to shake your hand and tell you how much you changed my life. I hope you never stop running as fast as you can toward your dream, since we are all the beneficiaries of your vision!

I saw Tom spend a lot of time around the RED booth at NAB. Super nice guy! The most fun I've ever had indeed.

Thanks Jim for always bringing it. From sponsoring a whole gang load of my snowboarding films to making the camera that took me to the next level of my career.
Stoked to be a part of your world. Can't wait to see what the future brings.

Mike, thank you as well, for being an important part of my early inspiration to always strive for quality image acquisition, high production values, and compelling content! I have been a fan of your work from the 'Sick Boys' days, and you have never disappointed since! It is awesome to see your presence here in this forum, and it makes sense. Red blows my mind quite regularly, and I too am stoked to be a part of this world right along with you!!

Now I want to watch 'Sick Boys' again.
