  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The mini MetaFuze thread. Share your experience and findings

Is there a MetaFuzer that works on a Vista 64-bit system... keep getting a SICORE engine crash on startup

Windows XP, Mac OS X using VM Fusion/BootCamp, and Linux via WINE. Although with the end of support for XP drawing nigh, I suppose there are plans in the works to move to Vista or Windows 7.

Only 3'ish more weeks, if I'm going to go optimistic. ;)

Only "fewish dayish" if we're gonna be super enthusiastic and optimistic. Bet they aim for nab thouh. Any info Michael? =)

We are working on it... I am oping to see a new one today to test (4/14/09) and see what shape it's in. Hang in there....

Hey MIchael. Sorry for nagging. :couch:

Just curios what shape it was in? You have to tease us a bit. :sifone:

Hopefully next week. We showed it at the RED USER event last night in the Avid room.

Great news! :sifone: How was it received? Any screams of joy? What's the biggies in the new release? The Batch function for sure is one, but is there any others?

Is the roadmap for Metafuze NDA'd or is it something you're ok to share with us here? =) Would be cool to know what's planned and a rough schedule for it.

Thanks for not going bananas on my nagging Michael.

The people who did see the new MetaFuze were quite pleased! The issue was how many people got to see it... the Avid and Assimilate rooms were off the main demo area and conference rooms, so you had to kind of know we were there... but that aside:

What was shown:

- Batch transcoding of all input files
- filter process to view all or any one file type as input (for example, import only R3D files when there are QT refs)
- audio support
- 10 bit codecs
- transcode using all cores! Each score is slammed at near 100%

Future release will work with Pipeline FX and Cube for render farm support. MetaFuze can already be driving as a line command and XML.

I hope to get some transcode times posted in the next week - we got "clever" with some of the ways to optimize and are quite pleased with the results.

WOW this is mind blowingly awesome :head_explode:

Thank you for this info Michael.

Cheers,

I have a question Michael. You say that future releases will work with distributed render apps. Is this when mfuze goes 100% commandline? Would that be around 2.0? Have you talked to anyone about a smedge module? I might take a stab at that if no one else have looked into it, depending on if I have the time and so.

What's avids vision for mfuze? Will it always be free? Or will we have to pay for it once it gets really usefull? In a meeting I had with vincent way back it sounded that mfuze would have a pricetag from the beginning. But that have obviously changed. =)

I need to speak with engineering to see about smedge modules and the like. Although we can't speak to futures and all, being a public company, MetaFuze is sort of excluded form that due to its being free. Will it always be free? I don't know - as far as I can tell for now it will be - but all things are subject to change - some of the original thinking around MetaFuze a couple years ago was that there would be a free single user type application, then an enterprise edition that would have a price associated with it. But that hasn't been discussed in a while - The way I see it, as long as it makes DNxHD it should be free, once it starts being a transcode engine to other export formats - a price could be considered. But in the end, not my call. I just want to make sure it keeps evolving to meet the needs of these file based workflows.

Michael

Things are progressing nicely - I don't have a real hard date as to when, but I suspect a couple weeks? Shooting for Mid May... 2009. ;)
