  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

THE LIST: Camera Insurance / Equipement Insurance Companies

I'm thinking of going with Kat - assuming that they do not offer any kind of coverage over manufacturer defects, etc. (I'm grabbing one of those battle-tested Scarlet-X's, which comes with only a 90 day warranty from Red)? What packages with Athos have REDusers found to be the best values? This will be my first time getting my equipment all covered - I asked about renting out gear, and she said that clients purchase their own additional short-term insurance from them online, is that what others of you have done or have you found another option that's more convenient?

Thanks for the help and advice!

Reminder to self: Update the list soon.

Taking the dragon on its first international trip this Saturday and have been hunting for insurance. Will, thank you for the list and everyone's opinions and advice. Gonna give Kat a call tomorrow

WIth Athos, I have worldwide coverage. Geographic coverage is only one factor in the insurance world, however...

Thank you very much

Does anyone know a insurance that covers Non-US residents aswell?
Every insurance I've seen they only cover UK or US residents.

That is a good question. I'm not an UK or US resident and I am looking for an insurance. Any ideas?

Glad I found this thread after searching for a while. I am going to give Athos a call

wow.. just got Athos. I'm super impressed with the web interface. Absolutely easy registration/sign up/payment. I called for a few questions about coverage but wow, the ability to create my own CERTs and send them out 24/7 is awesome.. no more calling my rep begging them for a quick CERT and them telling me that it takes hours or even days.

I changed to Athos when they pointed out that some of my gear may not have been covered by my previous insurer. It was a little more but hey at least I know they know what needs to be covered by my business. And i dont find out later that, Hey that wasn't covered because you took that gear out of the studio for a day shoot.

Not sure on the Digital Neg loss coverage but after shopping around for quite a bit I ended up with them because they had what seemed the most experience with production and its needs.
I would bet there is a Digital Neg loss coverage but it might be a lot. Would be worth asking.
Check with Aylene Villarin she even looked in to some speciality coverage for underwater and drone work. I was happy with them and the internet UI is pretty amazing if you need something on a moments notice like most of us..

Just went with Athos myself. The web interface makes it super fast and easy.

Hopefully they are easy-going with claims, haha.

They are. Had some trouble with the underwriter on a claim and after some frustrating back and forth emails I finally CC'd Kat. Had check in hand within a few days.

+ 1 for Athos. Although due to said claim I'm now non-renewed and need to find somewhere else :(

Whats the verdict with Heffernan/insuremyequipment.com? PPA?

Are you saying that because you had to claim a camera loss, you cannot renew your insurance at Athos? This means it's a "one claim only" insurance type?

Yep, I received a 60 day notice of non-renewal... well... 61 days ago! Due to "claims history".

'round this time last year I agreed to help a friend on his video project and he had a drone op lined up, who had some impressive credits, and who was said to be insured. Being extra cautious I asked him to help pay for an insurance policy as trade for the work. Two days later on set the drone falls out of the sky , MoVI is killed along with wireless FF and Teradek, camera and lens. Turns out he doesn't have the correct insurance, so it falls upon our policy ~$26k claim for our equipment (Alta drone isn't covered). But we got to turn around and get all new gear a month later.
