  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

THE LIST: Camera Insurance / Equipement Insurance Companies

Just went to renew my policy with Insuremyequipment and discovered that they will no longer talk with you by phone, only online. I guess that is OK for many these days, but to me that is a deal breaker, especially if I have an emergency. I cancelled and will go elsewhere. If you are going to take my money, you can at least answer the phone.

Look at REDs customer service in comparison.

Night and day.

She's the best.. I had Heffernan but they stopped taking calls and with Kat you can speak with a human being, figure out your specific needs.

And the deductible is only $250 rather that higher mine with them was $750. You can actually choose your deductible. Tell her everything you need covered and she or Aylene will take care of it same day.

You will be glad you called her.

Has anyone using this provider had to file a claim? Thats what I would like to know, how well they deal with claims. This seems to be a pretty damn good option.

I just want you and everyone to know, that we have had that insurance company for about 2 years now, and have never had to file a claim. But, frankly, I am NOT very happy with them.

I don't know if the problem lies with the Heffernan Insurance Brokers or with One Beacon Insurance, but they are SLOWER THAN A SNAIL ON AN ICEBERG when it comes to implementing changes or alterations to the policy, or even just getting back to you via email. Several times we have needed changes and it has taken "weeks" and sometimes "months" (Yes you read it right. MONTHS.) to get the change authorized and official.

Just about 4 days ago, we wanted to add "water damage coverage" to our policy. The agent at Heffernan tells us it will be OVER A WEEK before we will even hear anything. This, to me, is ridiculous.

If I call my auto insurance company and ask for a change in the policy, the agent tells me, "OK, it's in affect immediately". Why can't it be the same for "professional camera equipment" insurance?

.

Anyone have any more info for Insuremyequipment.com

Yea Will I do. I already posted this, but I want YOU to have it directly, especially since you started this thread.

We have had that insurance company for about 2 years now to cover our two Red-Ones, specialized lenses, and related equipment, and have never had to file a claim. But, frankly, I am NOT very happy with them.

I'm surprised that you were able to speak w a human being. I cancelled my policy with them after I found out that they changed underwriters on me without notifying me that excluded water damage and taking my Epic in a underwater housing in the water. I'm thankful I found Kat at Athos. She will customize your policy to your specific needs and spend a hr on the phone w you making sure it's what you need to get your gear covered. I'm thankful I never had a claim at Heffernan, if I had a flood camera wouldn't have been covered.

Heffernans new policy is they don't take phone calls anymore from their clients. You have to email them. I'm thinking they are losing clients left and right.

The deductible on my Heffernan policy was $750 per claim. My deductible with Kats policy is $250. No brainer for me. Read all every page of the policy exclusions on the Heffernan policy. Scary exclusions on page 40 something that you will miss unless you read every single page. Read their definition of "water damage".

Just wanted to give another shout out to Kat, who handles our insurance. Excellent service.

We may be switching to a new company but we are going to be very specific next time on what we need. Pretty much we need coverage for the gamut:
theft, liquid damage, fire, flood, mysterious disappearance, malfunction, wear and tear, accidental, full replacement coverage, general liability, unattended rentals to third parties

Thanks for this ongoing list of recommendations, and this is why I love Reduser!

I am looking for what I need from insurance, but in what situation I can claim wear and tear and general liability ?
Please explain what do they mean?!

thank you
somphane

George,

It's great to hold these guys accountable. I haven't heard of anyone to compete with Kat Wong. If your unhappy, give her a try, she's the kind of business that will fight for you, she's always available for a call or e-mail and she's a kind friendly person.

Glad people are getting some mileage out of it. As you know Nick, I ask a ton of questions and it's nice to give back good information.

It's probably time for an update soon, I'll have to free some up.

This thread is why REDUSER rocks!

Kat is simply the BEST IN THE BUSINESS! Going with her was the smartest decision I ever made!!!! They totally saved my ass when we needed to make a claim and the underwriter I worked with was one of the best experiences in business i have ever had and he was truely a genuine guy and recommended to get me the most moey possible to replace my equipment! Seriously, I wouldn't waste your time or money with anyone else. Kat will get in touch with you usually within 24 hours if not sooner and will get your policy updated instantly if you need to add certain riders like water coverage for a shoot on a boat or something. I definitely recommend asking ALL the questions you can and figuring out what is and isn't covered and what options you can add to make sure it is covered.

Oh by the way - I only found out about Kat through this amazing thread almost a year ago!!!! Thanks guys! :-)

What do people think of Fractured Atlas? They're technically just a place to source "low-cost" insurance policies, but I'm curious if anyone has had experience with them and their outsourced insurance providers? I may be giving Kat a call soon, though.

Strange thing happen, my cover expires this month. I sent an email to Kat Wong about 10 days ago, the email came back. Today I sent an email to service@athosinsurance.com, it also came back saying it can not be delivered.
Anybody else experience a problem?

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone so much for your contributions and insight. As a result I've got insurance with the highly praised Athos Insurance Services and couldn't be happier. Such excellent customer service. No claims so I can't speak to that, but I've loved my time with them thus far. Thanks again for pointing me to them.

got athos a while back.
Ongoing case with a manufacturer but Athos is very professional AND very responsive

I've got TCP Insurance (LA), and I've been very happy with the customer service. And they offer proper 'production insurance,' which covers more than just equipment and liability insurance. Anyone else use them?

Bumping up this old thread - can anyone share (PM if you prefer) what kind of a package you got (specifically with Athos)? I'd like to get a DICE policy but am having trouble figuring out how to project information on projects that may or may not come to life. Are there other policies people are using - like equipment + camera operator only? Thanks for any information.
