It's just a question of where you put your phosphor![]()
As you probably know, most phosphor based white LEDs are blue LEDs with a phosphor coating that broadens the wavelengths to make the light white.
Now the problem with phosphor based white leads is that the heat produced by the diode (LED) can damage the phosphor coating, therefore you can apply only a limited amount of materials that can take that kind of heating. Remote phosphor helps to avoid this problem by distancing the phosphor coating from the heat of the diode, alas giving you the possibility to use a wider range of materials in the phosphor diffusion plate (remote phosphor plate) which results in better diffusion, higher CRI, maintenance of the color temperature while dimming and a longer endurance of the chosen color temperature over time.
So there are a lot of advantages to remote phosphor LED units while being basically the same.

Welcome to Reduser Ulrik and thanks for your input on the Phosphor Media.
@Ketch,
Thanks for answers to all my questions! I have a couple more:
My pleasure Antony, and thank you for the questions, as they surely have helped providing much detail information to the rest of the community interested in this Group Buy, now we hopefully got you closer to pull the trigger...
+) Barndoors: The ones on the Area48 site are Black. The photos uploaded on RU have Silver (reflective) surface.
Q15) Is only one of these (Silver or Black) included in the package? Is there benefit having both? Why did you (if you have already) choose the silver one?
It is only standard Matte Black, or with the Silver reflective material applied to as an extra. I chose to have the silver reflective material on the first 3 units I purchased as I wanted to have the additional spread of the light, next units will be with Black to better control light spills, and I'll use the SnapBag on them.
+) Q16) SNAPBAG : Is this same as the '2058 Softbag 1 unit'. Is the bag double unit 2 x single bags, or a fitting that goes over two x Area48 lights?
The SnapBag, goes over the Barn-doors of each Individual Area 48 Soft Fixture, so you'll need ONE x Unit, and is a "SOFTBOX" the SoftBag and Double Soft Bags are actual Carry on BAGS to place the Fixture and accessories in for transport.
+) Q17) The BBS website mentions that there is 'Reflective Scrim' accessory. Is this the same as the SNAPBAG / SOFTBAG?
The Scrim Accessory is the Silver reflective material that which gets applied to the Barn-doors, however since they are developing new accessories, and anything that could be ready before this Group Buy closes after NAB, will be offered as part of IT at the discount reached accordingly.
