  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The industry has finally engaged...

It must be a lot fun for you as you seem to really enjoy helping people get their RED on.

That made more sense.
Well, it should be more fun (according to my original scheme), but.. renting out a camera can at times become a mindless money chase, which stiffles other creativity.. plus I always wreck stuff when I'm shooting, which means I have to focus on programming and guitar playing for safety reasons

I look forward to using my camera again one day, or an Epic of some sort maybe

I'm trying to keep prices low, which needs steady work.

Its not a logical business strategy, if profit is the only motive. I've found it pretty easy to get work.. managing costs is harder sometimes ie, vehicle, fuel, spare cables , Ginsters f&*k!N pies from nearest "Welcome to Road Theft Motorway Services", where everything costs triple because , er.. its on a motorway.. and , er .. presumably that creates some sort of logistical problem ?? .. or maybe.. I have to admit I like the McDonalds drive thru' because they have a talking clown menu that shouts at you if you get out and take a piss on it, although once he shouted at me with a girly voice, which was a little strange.. sorry , welcome to camera delivery world .. lead the way Tom Tom my untrustworthy guide to nowhere ;)

That’s so funny, I’ve been out of the UK six years and lived on and off in Europe and US for years before that (originally from UK), it seems that absolutely nothing has changed…
MFI, little Chef, ...MCy D's got watch out for those clowns maaaaan.;)

Nice One,

Eric

Nice One,
Eric

The UK is xchanging slowly, she may not realise it at first.. come back? stay away? hard to say.. whats Canada like?.. I stopped in Goose Bay for half an hour once so my father could refuel the small plane we'd just flown over the atlantic in through night.. he put auto-pilot on at one point in the journey and fell asleep, mother was not pleased when I popped out the cockpit and annouced he was asleep, and even less pleased when I replied "yes!" to her other question "what about the co-pilot?". Maybe that was another of their elaborate windups that I missed..

..change is something many younger McD's Drive-Thru staff love, but often can't count properly. If you try and offer advise AFTER you've received the Mc Flurry (to avoid any nastiness in the McFlurry), you'll quickly reason that you can't, because that is stage 3 in the buying a Mc Flurry process, and after any financial transaction has taken place. If I felt able I would offer guidance like "why don't you just rob a bank instead of skimming peoples change for the next five years, you can do it in less than a day, it'll save you time but require slighty more effort initially, what do you think? It may be more ethical too!"..but then probably realise my mistake, and offer an apology for the way a failing education system has treated them.. keep the change, I have ice cream to buy else where, and later eat while steering, toot toot :driving: .. but its easier to just take the ice cream and let them have 20p . They can spend it on mobile phone ringtones and help drive the economy, which may in turn boost the economy enough to avoid serious education cuts, and hence stop the vicious cycle paths

has the industry engaged? I don't know anymore

Here the time is two hours ahead of that of California, know that for sure from a few relatives that live in Stockton. Right now it is 8:18 here, and 6:18 in California. Now that just made me notice the hour in my previous posts matches my time zone. Yikes!

Yes, I also hope scarlet is 4k on a 2/3 sensor, but only time will tell. Thats not so unrealistic, as the pixel size would for sure take down some dynamic range, then 2/3rds is not compatible with 35mm glass without major compromises.
With that in mind, it would be no epic for $8k. Hopefully.... Maybe Jim will speak early if we keep tempting him >:)

REDUSER Scores again!

I love the fact that you get folks from all corners of the planet here.

And Yup the Getty and LACMA have projects there. I was trying to get a sense of the city..from a computer terminal stumbled across this Youtube video…
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ch81TTJoXgY&feature=related

I think they were more interested in showing how modern Guadalajara is, I’m more interested in the old… but looks like a nice city. No doubt Victor you will be or maybe already are Guadalajara’s cinematic ambassador to the world.

I guess the message and from what people have figured out is that Canon may initially have a larger sensor than Scarlet, BUT to actually record they have to execute this two pixel down to one pixel binning technique to bring it to 2K recording. Whereas a 3k to 3k recording with other options is going to be much cleaner and obviously have a higher spatial integrity/MTF over all. The "Three of a kind" i.e. 3k in camera to 3k REDCODE RAW target storage beats 4k binned down to 2k… Pretty much what everybody is saying.

The basic philosophy of what some have laid out seems to make sense. If you will the REDONE has had its day (fabulous run)…(understatement). With EPIC now if you are going to shoot a major picture you will pick the EPIC. So really, right this minute there is no immediate need for new a 4k camera. It seems a 3k complete delivery system would have a much broader set of applications. So Epic-S (ish idea) will probably be 10 months from now if it’s still on the table. So the Scarlet needs to be all about accessibility as many of you have said. Which is great! That will be “disruptive”…

Exactly as Todd Brisson says “It takes a generational investment in order to displace competitors like ARRI, Sony, Panny and now Canon.Making this RED gear accessible to the future film maker will move the RED workflow into the position of THE production standard”

Much of what Todd says seems to make a hell of a lot of sense to me.

My money’s on (therefore)... although at this stage its SOOOO unimportant now…

Scarlet 2/3” (convinced now) 3k (convinced now) for between ($8 and $9k and an extra $1000 get you the HDRx (extra dynamic range)).

So from the creator of Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle: “Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.”

That’s usually how I think… (it starts out pretty out-there but at least once you progressively throw out the “the impossible” or the “crazy” you start to naturally converge on things that are more probable in a much more complete way.)

Other Sherlock Holmes/Conan Doyle quotes would apply here too.

“It has long been an axiom of mine that the little things are infinitely the most important”....(that one could get you into real trouble…)

“It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data.” (a lot of Ph.D Theses just went up in smoke...)

“There is nothing as deceptive as an obvious fact”

But by far the most Apt for this situation is

"Mediocrity knows nothing higher than itself, but talent instantly recognizes genius”

I think there may be a good reason why “talent” will recognize RED after Nov 3rd. and "mediocrity" may be running with …...?

Good luck everybody,

Eric
