  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The industry has finally engaged...

The RED ONE has been important for over 4 years. That is a long time in the world we live in. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was shot mostly on a RED ONE MX. The RED ONE MX shoots and intercuts perfectly with EPIC footage.

We love the RED ONE. But while it probably doesn't have a new sale life left... it is valuable. How many 4 year old digital cameras can say that?

Jim

Jim what does the Scarlet and Canon's announcment mean for the RED One?
How long are you planning to back the RED one for?

I'm going to purchase from the company that wants most my business. By this I mean a company that listen to its users, that takes notes and continuously improves the product they put on the market, upgrading it through firmwares, adding features, offering affordable updates to its interiors when they become available in the future. I will purchase from a company that will stand beside its product, committed to its support, committed to provide me the tool that not only provides best value and performance now, but also provide the support and vision in order to help me achieve the best possible results and provide me a path to stay on the forefront of image quality in the future.

Jim, you say you're the underdog. Many of us, , the independent professionals, the aspiring artists, identify with that. We are underdogs in a "Big Guns" , "establishment" dominated industry. We, like the Red Team, are "outnumbered" by the established, but not outsmarted, or out talented. The Digital Cinema Revolution empowered the talented to be able to showcase their potential. I hope Red is the tool that empowers this potential to shine, shake the industry and with this evolve the cinema experience- both in cinematography and in storytelling . I hope Red gives us underdogs the possibility to own and be able to present Digital Cinema at the same level of the Big Guns. Let the true talent of the indies push your and your team's efforts to the limit.

From your post I figure that Canon's upcoming announcement will also be somewhat modular. Interesting, exciting and revolutionary times!

Well that's a heck of a statement. : ) I'm done speculating...is it Thursday yet?

wow, that was a very honest answer.

Much more interested in working with the Underdogs, you sure have stirred things up already.

...Prices that consumers can swallow...

I think that remains to be seen, regarding both cameras being announced on the 3rd.

Obviously you guys have already made big waves with the amazing pricing of the Red One and now the Epic, so I trust the Scarlet will fall in that category as well.

We'll all know in a couple days. (damn it seems like yesterday that it was a couple months)

Depends what Scarlet is honestly.

If it's a 4K 72fps EPIC-S for $10k then you'll see some crossover for sure between EPIC / Scarlet "Markets."

Don't be surprised when it happens, just be ready.

Again not red-rocket science, the Scarlet will have at least 4K capability replacing the RedOne like I said days ago, and EPICs will be an additional choice, maybe (definetely) many choices.

So, Jim can I wait a week or two to buy my Scarlet? As I've read, you won't sell out again.... I'm a bit worried that despite your good intentions that you may sell out.... so the question is how long is the back order... a few weeks, a month, or months and what about all the accessories like RED Volt Batteries?

Lastly, is sound working this time? I passed on my RED #217 because I need sound... and good sound... Holophone 5.1 sound... So is Scarlet sound fully sound ready? Can it shut its fan off for 5 minutes in 100 degrees on a hot and humid beach in Florida or the Caribbean?

Also, how many RED Volts can I carry on an airplane, since I can't pack them in luggage? Thanks! I'd still love to buy a RED, but can it run and gun like I do. I loved my Sony PD-150, BUT HATE MY EX-1 plooming sunsets, polarizers with color shifting from green to magenta - on several polarizers and vignettes that twice had to be fixed. But it worked for 3 DVDs as I wait the scarlet or new Canon for an update before I go shooting again. 1080p and DVD are fine for me as that is my market despite selling $300 stock shots at artbeats. Now with all the red 1s, and new Epics, I will never try to compete with the movie stock footage, but advertising, normal HDTV, and internet are fine for me... and hopefully Scarlet.

Should I be pissed off because I bought my Epic for almost 60k

China?? didn't know they were designing cameras, building them, yes... but?....hmmm Interesting.

i doubt that RED is going to "kill" EPIC's market by launching scarlet.....they should be totaly different!!
"You guys are crazy. Scarlet will not be better than EPIC. Really? What are you smokin'?

If Canon can beat EPIC... God love them. We'll fold up our tent. Are you guys serious?

Jim"

What you buy and when you buy it should be related to the business you are in and how you need to position your gear for your business.

I'd suspect that you have the business to support the purchase therefore you have clients that like to work with you because of you not your gear.
