I guess I won't worry too much about my reputation with the folks who have been here for a week and have less than a dozen posts. C'est le vie. (Sorry, my french isn't as good as Brian's engliish, but then again , I think both of us are American.)

Actually, it's "C'est la vie." While I'm American, I also hold dual-citizenship with France. I'm both French by nationality and fluent in the language.

I think my Open Orders screen on Red.com has shipping included. It ends in an odd number like 76 cents. I'll have to calculate what it is one of these days.

If you divide your total by the subtotal amount for your order, what does it equal? For orders in California, if it's 9%, I believe that includes shipping. But I'm not sure what tax is in Colorado is, so I don't know if they include shipping.

That was just for the brain/ssd/mount. I ordered the accessories separate via ground as I went Canon mount and it should all be here way before the (possible, hopeful) December 1st ship date for the brain :)

Also, in Texas so no sales tax...

Don't think there is tax on it. I'm pretty sure the shipping cost is added too it. I'll take a look post hockey game here.

Really? That's interesting. I thought tax was included. There's something I don't understand, though. On orders that only contain a Scarlet, if you divide the total amount by the Scarlet subtotal, you get about 9%. But RED HQ is in Irvine... Irvine sales tax is only 7.75%. So, if you add 7.75% to the subtotal (I'm referring to the cost of a Scarlet-X with a Ti Canon Mount: $11,250), you get $1,2121.875. The total price of $1,2263.76 minus the theoretical subtotal cost of $1,2121.875 (using 7.75% for tax) would be $141.89... Meaning that shipping from RED to an address in the Los Angeles area (near where I live) would cost $141.89? That doesn't completely make sense to me. I don't think there's any way that tax would cost 9%.

There is an additional $58.70 attached to my order. Has to be shipping. Tax would be closer to $700 i'd imagine.

Okay, I think I understand now. The shipping method on my order status says FedEx 2-day air. Assuming that Scarlet weighs 5 pounds, the entire package will probably weigh less than 7 pounds. So, shipping by FedEx from an address in Irvine (RED) to an address in the L.A. area (me) usually wouldn't cost that much ($141.89)... However, when you factor in the amount that RED pays for insurance on each package, it all makes sense. I just checked the FedEx website for a quote and the total is $110.69. That's still $31.20 off from the theoretical calculation, but that's pretty close. So, what I suppose all this means is that if you check your order status, the total amount includes tax and shipping if you live in California. If you live outside California, the total only includes shipping. I read in another thread that you need to declare your own taxes by yourself.

Not to sure man. I'm glad I'm getting it while I'm here. I might end up in Cali before to long. Even when I do I'll likely ship it to Colorado and have my parents or family ship it to me to avoid taxes.

Big companies get HUGE breaks on shipping when they have an account with fedex.

For example I worked for a film company that has locations in Maui, HI and Redondo, CA. I live in CO. I had to ship my Mac to Hawaii. Using there account for 2 day it was like $70. When I shipped it back w/o there account it was closer to $120.

Hmm... That's even more interesting! $58.70 sounds like too little for shipping. I just checked FedEx.com again and shipping from RED to a random ZIP code in Westminster, CO (80030) should cost $126.30. I noticed you got the Scarlet-X package with an Al Canon Mount. Tax on that, based on your location (I'm using an average of 8.575%), should be around $836.

Wow, that's kind of a nice savings. =) Wish I had an account like that with UPS.

Hmm... I just noticed that I'm doing a ridiculous amount of calculations here. I suppose we'll all just have to wait until we get our 'official' totals from RED. :)
Yeah no tax for me. Everything add's up and i'm almost 100% sure that's shipping.
