The makes sense, the video blogs did give some information about their schedule for post and vfx, and I remember wandering how it was possible to do top notch creative work with such aggressive pacing.

Orlando Bloom did join the cast.
I don't think that's it (I mean we're talking about the same people who did Avatar).
Rather I think it's because of 48 fps 3d...Peter Jackson mentioned at some point that they were only allowed to make that choice because he assured the studio it wouldn't cost more money. So they're probably heavily stressed with the work load, and probably not refining a lot of shots as much as they otherwise would.
That would be awesome if true, maybe he did VO. The image of him just doesn't look real. Why would they add the effect or use a CG actor?
No, he didn't do VO, just look at the production diaries of Desolation of Smaug, it's easy to find on the web. Why Orlando looks so CGI? Oh, I don't know... maybe because actor aged 12 years. Sure they applied some digital "de-aging", but that's common these days and understandable in case of a prequel movie.

Make up? Just kidding. I see your point.
"de-aging," when did good makeup artists die? With the release of 5k and sharper glass? Certainly not.
I wonder if someone is going to put a 48 fps version of the new trailer online like they did last time.

47.95 is twice as fast as 23.976 fps.
