The Gentleman's Underwater Bubble Blower Thread

Looks great, Darek. i admire anyone that takes on the task of making and underwater housing. it's quite an accomplishment.

Thank you John.

The master files were delivered like a month ago so I expect it should be aired in the sprig. No dates have been revealed yet.

I designed the housing originally for Scarlet MX in 2012. The manufacturing was done by a friend of mine. Nothing like your masterpieces but it's been working ok ever since.

109 Shows? Wow. Please let us know air dates, Jim.

PA prices out very soon. Watch this forum.....

Hello old friends,

Haven't visited this site in over a year , and have actually not picked up a housed camera myself in even longer, but I wanted to wish all my fellow UW shooters all the best during these Christmas and year end festivities. May the coming year and immediate future bring us some much needed hope for the future of our oceans and planet.

All the best.

Did anyone else notice the colour shift with the newest firmware? Specifically for UWOLPF?

Mine was super green, so I rolled back to the old one and now have the nice slightly red cast when above water.

Posting here a related thread:

http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?151796-PNW-Reduser-get-together-in-January

RED Users in the Seattle area are getting together this month (21 January at Glazer Camera) to chat and check out some gear. Margo Cavis / Optical Ocean Sales will be on hand with Gates Pro Action Housing and GT14 lights. Jeff Whitehurst -- a seasoned underwater shooter -- will also be there. Jeff is a self-admitted techno-geek, so between Margo and Jeff any underwater questions can be answered. :)

Hey Simon,

I am assuming this is on your Helium?
I can dig into this with you if you like. Couple questions I can ask but the easiest thing would be if you would just like to send me an R3D frame from the footage you shot with the newest firmware and then one you shot with after rolling back to the old we can dig into the metadata and see what was going on there. Doesn't matter what it's a frame of, just need to see the metadata. If I had to guess I would think the camera did not properly recognize which OLPF was in there and applied the wrong color science. So maybe it was showing you color for Standard OLPF instead of H2O for instance. I'll do some testing here and trying to replicate that.

If you want to email R3D grabs, you can send to: sean at red dot com

Thanks!

Hi all, has anyone used the Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 DC HSM underwater?

I'm looking for something to shoot superwide with with when the sensor is cropped down to 5.5K HD on the Epic-W (1.9x crop factor for 35mm). I own and love the Tokina 11-20mm but it's not wide enough to get me those high frame rates down at the lower resolutions.

Cheers

Hi all,

I will soon shoot in a pool, mostly underwater, not deeper than 3 meters, we'll use ambient light during the day then add some HMIs at night ...

Would you consider using the H2O OLPF or stick with either the Standard or STHL OLPF?

these guys can chime in better than i can, but it's really your choice. i can only assume the h20 was geared towards handling pool shooting and deep diving, but there's a possibility it could be too heavy of filtration for clear pool shooting with lots of light. probably wouldn't be too bad, but i think i'd stick with the standard olpf or skin-tone optimized if you're doing any medium->closeups.

i don't do shooting underwater, just color correction although i haven't seen the h20 filter yet. just wanted to jump in and offer my opinion fwiw in case you're in a real time crunch.

It is fine-tuned to produce the best colors in deeper water—where lighting conditions can vary tremendously.

Hi Vincent,

No need for H2O for that shallow shots. You'll get good results with standard or low light OLPF.

Cheers

Hi Vincent,
Here's a look at my test on an unfiltered Canon 16-35mm v2. STH, H2O, LLO in 10' pool, natural light only, midday clear sky, WB in scene.
Any of these OLPFs would work well, but if you want an enhanced blue water background, the H2O has the edge and the best chart color.
Hope it helps, Jeff
