  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Gentleman's Underwater Bubble Blower Thread

Nice job Johnny, forgot how un-fisheye the 13mm looks like...Biggest compliment I can pay the lighting is how "unlit" it looks, subtle, diffuse look for sure, something I wouldn't expect given the lumen rating of those lights. How far back were they from the subject on the night shots?

Rudi: yes, very true...this 13mm fisheye does not have so pronounced a fisheye effect. Not nearly like using terrestrial lenses behind a port and how bent straight objects become. It is very promising and compact system. I'm just glad i was able to round up the lenses before they had gotten too expensive.

Johnny. You were using UW Nikonos lens on a housing. What housing using these lenses on the exterior without a glass dome?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something?

Beautiful, Johnny! I was angling for a Nikonos rig for the upcoming Channels trip with HH, but I guess I'll have to settle for the lights... Still gonna be sick with the Zeiss 15, or the Toki 16-28!

RS lenses are the ones that were used with the Nikonos Autofocus SLR system and It is quite a bit different from the older Nikonos 2, 3, 4, 5 style:

Gates showed their housing mod and mount for the Nikons RS lenses at DEMA this year - this post has a few details:

Sean,
good to see you here again. The lights do indeed have a very nice color to them and bright they are. No squid this trip....in fact even the kelp is completely missing at Catalina.

Yeah Johnny, hurricane Marie and the multiple storms to follow definitely didn't hit us as bad as you guys got it down in Baja but I was diving Catalina the weekend after Marie rolled through and the kelp was absolutely demolished. However there certainly was some interesting man-made articles on the ocean floor to explore, when viz allowed them to be discovered.

So Pawel was onto those years back... ?

Did he use RS lenses? Is this a great new option because of results or more of a testing phase?

What about that UW OLPF? When is RED going to start putting them into your hands fellas for some alpha/beta testing?

Check those corners on the Nikonos.

Dragon on the coast of California.

Anyone else going to be taking shots of this "Decade" storm landing tonight? I have a feeling it's something I won't want to miss. I'll be taking my Dragon Camera, high speed lenses and the 600mm matching zoom down from San Francisco to LA, maybe catch a few shots, a few waves. I'm up for some adventure, open to conversation and projects...

Thanks for linking the new build and colour science here Sean. The two new colour spaces do seem to really help with underwater footage, which the UWOLPF should further improve.

Sean and Nate really can't wait to get out and test...
