  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Gentleman's Underwater Bubble Blower Thread

I'm in the Arri Dept. on this one...BUT, having a mounting plate with multiple configs. could be an answer.

ah....i have even mounted my epic on DSLR sticks using a DSLR plate---the Epic comes with those alignments in place already. although not much for use when doing anything but a static shot...

Hi John,

I am in he Sachtler camp myself. Thanks for keeping the innovation going and trying to improve on an already excellent piece of kit.
Hi all,

Survey: We are always designing new features into housings, and our next target is convenience changing from under to over water. The objective is to easily remove camera/battery from the housing and mount directly to a tripod.

The key question: what tripod mount compatibility is preferred? What is most in use? Sachtler? Arri? Something else?

After very successful workshop for ACS members we had more enquiries with interest to participate in our underwater cinematography workshops.

We have an opportunity to run another one in sunny Tasmania on the weekend 14 - 17 March if there is sufficient interest. There are some other dates in May that may also work. We can accomodate broad range of subjects, depending on individual interests of the participants. See more information here:

http://achtel.com/course.htm

You can bring your own camera and housing and there will be 3Deep and DeepX provided to play with. We can arrange for accomodation, air fills and scuba equipment. Rebreathers welcome.

I'm also intending to run a couple of workshops for our American colleagues in US later this year, probably in late September/early October.

Please contact me by PM or email to express interest.

I'll take it up with her ;-)

Actually met her a couple of years ago; well, 'meet' is a relative thing, insofar as one understands that term. She seemed a sweet sort of rich girl, methinks saving sharks was prob not highest on her to-do list of appointments.

But you never know...

I have a great pleasure to announce that my blue-chip natural history feature film, Grace under Pressure, has been selected at AIDC 2013.

The film is currently in development. The research and concept have been in development for a few years now with weeks spent alone on a remote piece of rock somewhere in the southern ocean surrounded only by the rare Australian sea lions... So it is great to see market interest in this remarkable story.

We are planning for a 4k theatrical feature length release as well as 1-hour broadcast version.

It is probably going to be the largest and the most ambitious natural history project undertaken in Australia.

John E,

I Use the Arri Dovetail with an Element Technica DT mount. it would make perfect sense to use in the housing and is easy to fabricate the dovetail at any size that fits the housing. you can also mount your rods and keep focus and zoom motors and gears right on the rig and just transfer to a tripod. It would be so much easier to prep and shove the camera in the housing.
Most Professional shooters already have that gear and it just might bring the cost of manufacturing down as well.
thanks for asking and good luck!

Tom Holden and Evan Sherman are visiting, being trained on DEEP EPIC by Justin. They leave next month to start shooting the new PADI Open Water Course videos.

Awright, at wits end here, trying to export still images of my Baja aerials out of FCP-X, cannot for the life of me find the command to do that. Anyone?

...Yep, it's easy but different....on our middle work area to far far left...there is an arrow coming out of a frame, click that, then options come up for sharing....click the plus sign to Add Destination, then choose "save current frame"; double click on it or drag it to the left side to add as s new choice...then the options window appears so you can set a default setting: jpg, tiff etc...Then you can call that a Tiff frame grab and set more options for DPX frame grabs etc...it's actually kind of nice...and simple when you find it...

you can also go to Larry Jordan for some quick info: http://www.larryjordan.biz/fcpx-still-frames/

The fact that this post has been ignored speaks volumes..........gentalman's underwater thread indeed?
Well done Pawel and anyone else that's going to be involved with this!!!

Well, you reap what you sow.

Paul,
I generally read this thread because I respect the level of outstanding talent on here.
I'm also well aware of some of the stuff that's gone on over the past year or 2.
Didn't post for stirring sakes, but rather, because I believe that any project of any size
that has the potential to inform and entertain a world audience about nature and its
importance to us all, should be applauded - regardless of who's managed to get it up.

Has anyone had the chance (that's you UK folks) to see the new Galapagos 3d series with David Attenborough? ....i believe it's only available over SKY Cable...and they apparently broadcasted in 3d. I'm waiting for a DVD....but sure looks beautiful from the bits i see on the website .

Of course the aerials in 3d are over the top unreal. No money held back on those sequences.
