  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The future...

Stage 2 and 3 will finish first. Stage 4 is the open order stage and the last stage which will be indefinite, so there is no waiting for stage 4 to end before other cameras begin to roll. It has been suggested that stages 2 and 3 will only take a few months, maybe less.

So I'm a little unaware of how the different stage's work....But are they finishing all Stages of the Epic X program before moving onto any other cameras? Or is there a certain point at one of the Stages in Epic X where they'll begin with the Scarlets and or Epic S cameras? Are the Stages where certain customers are slotted to have there cameras made?

From what I remember Jim saying, was that only after X comes the next...

Don't get me wrong... I like Sanjin. I just don't understand what he is saying half the time. :-)

Jim

Sounds like most producers I work with...
Sanjin,

The best compliment you could ever receive online and I fully share with !

Cheers from somewhere nearby sea and sand ;)

So after Stage 4 is when they start stages of the Scarlet camera?

Well, there is no "after" Stage 4 - Stage 4 is just open sale to anyone so it is, as was said previously, indefinite.

I believe that after they reach Stage 4 (i.e., all Stage 1, 2, 3 orders have been fulfilled) that we will start seeing other offerings.

Now, because Scarlet is something of a different beast, we may see it sooner or later. I don't know that we have firm data regarding its release in reference to the Stages since there are no Scarlet STAGEs, no Scarlet pre-orders, and no Scarlet promises to prior RED owners. At least to the best of my knowledge...

I think this is perhaps the best tribute to Jim Jannard and his team. You guys are dream merchants making people dream and live a life. I feel poor indeed is a person who doesn't have a dream in his heart. And there are many millions of us who can't dream.

John,
You are blessed that you have a dream. Keep on pushing towards your goal. One day success will be yours.

Have faith.

Cheers,
Sabyasachi
I don't own a RED, I inspire to, but I know it will be a good long while before that happens, however, I am excited to be a member of REDUSER. I look forward to posts like this from Jim, it helps me dream, it reminds me that anything is possible if you continue to be inspired. Jim and his team are my inspiration. I would love to get my hands on their technology and one day i will, but the real gift they have given me is the courage to keep dreaming. I look forward to future announcements with baited breath :)

Ah ok makes sense! Thank you!

Yes, indeed. John's post makes me think to even take a reminder when there will be some place open in the crew when a RED camera will be nearby :-)

Emanuel,

we both, RED team and REDUsers, could build together EPIC as a Swissarmy knife digital still+cine camera.

vm_53342_sol_a03.jpg

Something like a Super Tinker U.S. Flag Swiss Army Knife Camera for the 21st Century 5K digital stills and cine motion acquisition!!!

What we are still missing?

1. Leica-M mount (OK already exists one made by SpaceCam but existing Epic construction limiting use just for several m lenses. That means RED would have the next turn to fix a larger circle like hole around OLPF for that option?!

2. An additional HDRx option something like a HDRx2 that can use super clean high ISO for X track recording. Again RED would have the next turn with RED Dragon new sensor to enable this feature?!

3. A small 1080p box with HDMI/3G HD-SDI out connectors for additional monitoring and ProRes/Avid DNxHD recording like an additional monitoring/recording module box.

That's all.

I dont think rangefinder lenses will ever work on cameras designed for PL and SLR glass. Gonna have to give up on that one. Too many obstacles, like the filter for one.

Wow, this thread has taken on a futuristic speak that I swear resembles english.. save the context and meaning of the words.

EPIC-X shipping as hoped...the long awaited EXCITEMENT AND ANTICIPATION... its almost too much for this girl to bear!

The futurte sounds so bright... can we assume that every Red Dragon will ship with a pair of Oakleys?

If it doesn't have a built in high-res depth camera and a workflow App that lets me adjust and output s3D clips to whatever format I want then I'm not going to be impressed by anything, you desensitised my amazement gland already.

The technology is already available and super cheap(ie Microsoft Kinect)(although it's more about depth than a point cloud). You'd just need a higher resolution version.
There's also some 3d scanning technology you can use(using a projector), since epic can shoot high frame rates you could have the scanning done to the image inbetween your actual footage(similiar to their hdr trick). You can get very accurate and high res 3d data from that.

The possibilities would be wonderful.
* Already have all your tracking data available to use.
* Adjust lighting in 3d. Fog. etc..
* pick out characters/objects and only apply filters to them. colour correction
* green screens would be a thing of the past.

Pretty much all features you could be using in your 2D editor in a 3d way. It'd be incredible.

(side note)
Oh also, I've seen research tech that can auto tag your video(aside from face recognition), it can recognize actions, like "Shaking Hands", "Hugging", "Kissing". Yes it detects motion like that, crazy huh. Take that research and combine it with google goggles. You'd pretty much have all your video searchable/sortable. Metadata is really really important but everyone hates filling it out. Tat wouldn't exist on the camera though it'd be something you run after.

anyways.. lots of exciting potential out there.

At last, somebody that knows what futuristic is. Good on you Patick, give Red something to think about aiming for.
