  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The future...

Speaking of sensors. . . what is the difference between the Monstro we heard so much about a while back (which was to be FF35) and the Dragon sensor (which I assume will be S35)?

Stephen

The Dragon sensor is the first one from the Monstro family. As far as I know it should be a 24MP full frame sensor but who knows...

Can't wait to see whats coming... Think i've to call Doc and take a ride in his DeLorean. ;)

*impatiently eyes his FF35 Epic-S fund...*

Just wait... It gets worse the closer you think your getting.... :emote_hanged:

All I'm going to say to RED is....

Please! Scarlet-F before 2012.....

That is all.

I'm anxiously awaiting for any hints or updates regarding Red Pro Anamorphics...

Currently there is a huge demand and (worldwide) shortage on quality Anamorphic lenses. Especially PL mount!
2 of the last 3 features I've worked on have shot Panavised Epic Anamorphic (and the other 3D).

Will order immediately . Assuming of course they are cheaper, lighter and faster than Red Pro Primes ;-)

this would be a dream but i read somewhere here that this would likely never happen, too impractical. simply lighter/ smaller Red Pro Primes would be snapped up though, i would love to see a new foray into lenses from red too.

I guess work on the 3D holographic emmersive 28k cameras is going well. ;)

My crystal ball shows me running around making pretty pictures with my EPIC-M...

I can see all the way into Monday, when my REDVolts get delivered. Bam! Can't wait.

Thanks for the cameras, Jim, they have been life-altering.

Looking to the distant future is always fun, but never more so than when you're shaping it.

I'd like to think that there's some kind of global-latitude sensor possible, where you choose aperture only to affect depth of field and the sensor records light levels way above and below what the eye can see, leaving the creative decision of how to expose for the edit suite. RAW to the next level. It's possible to far exceed human capabilities with sensors for heat, sound, pressure etc, so why not light? ;)

Thanks for that. I'd wondered, just in passing, what practical (film/cinema-related) use there would be for such sensors, now I know. Not assuming it's actually on RED's or anyone else's to do list, but it seems like it'd be a natural progression, based on the way things have been (so painfully slowly) developing over the years.

Anyway, whatever it is they're actually working on, it must be difficult for the RED team to contain their enthusiasm and not shoot themselves in the foot by saying too much too soon. We all know the frustration of having to wait for the secrets to be revealed and for the products to be made available for us to purchase. But imagine how frustrating it must be to have to keep the secrets and be held back from sharing your work due to mundane (and sometimes tragic) logistical and business/competition/marketing factors. I guess it's all just part of the deal when you decide to push the limits and succeed in doing what no-one's done before, but still...The RED team are in an interesting position where they can, in effect, predict the future, because they are the ones that are going to make it happen. But in order to make it so, they can't tell the 'world' about it beforehand, for various reasons. Again, any frustration we feel as potential customers and users of the RED technology can't possibly be worse than the frustration of those who are trying to bring it to fruition.

No point to this post really. Just thinking out loud. Am glad to hear the enthusiasm of the head honcho, because it's nice to know there are people out there actively trying to push for positive change in their given field, and it's extra nice in this case because the one's telling us there's some awesome stuff on the horizon are the same one's who have proven in the past they're capable of delivering the goods.

And I like goods.

They're so much better than bads lol.

Grinning..... I reflect back to a "meeting in Irvine"... Where we got to see "Jupiter" through a glass case... and hear "Money for Nothin".... on an crazy insane cool sound system... and have a "Cheap Trick" dinner.... Thinking back about the frankly "insane" commitment to "measureably better" than anything else on the market... and then going on to prove it !... Grinning all i can say is... to all the "Nay Sayers" of 5 years ago.... They had zero idea and probably to this day some are still clueless of what kind of "Passion for Perfection" in a CEO they are dealing with :)

Workin my tail off in the Motor City Shooting chapel weddings with my 5dmk11 with one goal in mind.... to one day purchase an "Epic" ... so I can become a "CinemaPhotographer"... Why.... Because its the only tool on the market that will allow that to happen...

Looks like the futures so brite... ya gotta wear shades ? lol oh wait.... did that already...
"Hoist that Jolly Roger"...
Motor City Cheers..
Chris Gus...

I spent several hours today in meetings gathering updates about our progress for things we have in the works. I have to say... if you are mildly impressed with what we have accomplished in the past 5 years, you will be wildly excited about what we have coming in the future.

It really is hard to describe what RED has planned. If you bought into the RED program, you are likely to feel like you grabbed on to a cyclone when we are done.

Just saying...

Jim

Here is a question for you... Are you ever going to be done? Personally I want to be on a never ending cyclone :smile5: And my head is still spinning from what you've already done and I haven't even saved up enough for my camera yet!

Sounds like RED is well on the way to inventing the "Holodeck" about three centuries early!

Whatever they're working on, I can hardly wait to see it.

Never done. We are just getting started. We now have a library of knowledge that we can build from. Trust me... the stuff in front of us is hard to imagine.

Hard to imagine as in surpassing the resolution of Anamorphic 35mm, or hard to imagine as in it'll be competing with 5/65mm?

This is small change compared to what we have cooking...

Best of all... our customers get to upgrade.
