  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Future of Follow Focus Now- Optitron by OptiTek

Any way this can be integrated with reds new motion mount?
 
Lots of gnashing of teeth here. I can't understand what red is thinking. It seems like everything is right here. Jacek has done it with the optitron. Now built in ND gives everyone pause. Talking to the guys at the Red booth it appears there is absolutely nothing in the works for any remote that will control the canon lenses in the electronic mount. Why did I get the canon electronic mount? Why didn't I just get a dumb mount. B/C we all thought a remote focus was coming. The truth is...it's not. Period. So now choose between global shutter and built in nd or wireless control of your canon l primes. I am stuck here.

BTW who is going to permanently mount a metabones speed booster on a new 24-70 II and release a 20-65mm 2.0 zoom for $3000? Jacek?

Except... even if it doesn't come from RED, *someone* will do it.

Too many people are demanding something like the Redmote Pro.

I've said it before, there should be a bunch of Redmote-compatible products from 3rd parties out there. It's *obvious*. The tech isn't especially fancy or hard to do. It's a great way to customize a camera to your personal preferences.

I'd like to see a Redmote with five big friendly analogue knobs on it: Shutter, Iris, ISO, L Level, R Level. All the most important controls, somewhere I don't have to go poking in touchscreen menus or Redmote screens to find. Just like a Real Camera. Sometimes even Real Men have to wear gloves... come on someone, make stuff like this!

I'm really bummed about the lack of a REDMote pro announcement too. How likely is it that a third party will develop a solution that uses the RED Canon mount vs a separate mount I wonder?

I would define the possibility as "very unlikely"
BTW we are showing some new setups in the Sony booth at Cine Gear...
 
Just mastered a 9 minute project to 4K. 80% of it was shot with Optitron and Canon L glass. Graded in 4K in Davinci...Beautiful.
 
I seriously wish there was over all a little more information on the optitron...more pictures, more info, more on size and weight, mounting points etc...
 
I can't even find any info on teir website anymore. What happened to the optitron?
 
Curious about the optitron as well. Provides an important product. Ability to program long (or short) focus throws to regular canon still glass is a huge advantage to certain productions. Can't believe this product isn't getting more traction. Still very interested in any updates.

The Optitron sounds great Jacek and I am keen to try it out when my next project starts.
But it would be great to update your website and include more info, pictures of the product, and pricing information.
 
It cannot control zoom on Canon lenses, of course.
I ordered this through Abel Cine, but I'm still waiting on a ship date.

This product is evolving so fast based on the field feedback that the info we compile is obsolete by the time it's ready for the upload.
This wonderfully creative community (and others) makes me create incredible options I never thought of before. Hard to keep up with for a demo...
