I reject your first premise. Apple takes pride in wholesale changes to their product line. The fact that you can still sync a Firewire iPod at all is amazing.

Your second premise is undoubtedly true. I'd go further and say that Apple is a little bit too smarmy, and lacking in authenticity these days.

Naaaa, I disagree. I've owned just about every generation of iPod going back to 2001, and they're all falling apart. To me, they weren't reliable until they went solid state with the iPod Touch. Even those have battery issues (and this is widely discussed if you do a Google search). I'm very disappointed that Apple has abandoned iPod and wants music listeners to just retrieve everything from the Cloud, which isn't always possible or practical.

iPod truly was/is one of my favorite Apple products. But I have maintained the erm.... workflow by just syncing my iTunes library to my local storage on my Android and IOS phones. I travel a lot, often in places where there is no connection to the cloud. I digitized most albums I owned prior to the now and all new purchases just get added into my iTunes Music. I back that up like I would anything else as well.

Just flew about 14 hours. I would have lost my mind without some good tunes.

Pretty sure I used to have YOUR music on my iPod.

It's been a hot minute, but I occasionally produce scores for things, even foley when the moment calls for it. Might whip up a second album if I can chain some time together, but happily filmmaking is keeping me swamped.

Perhaps you could have two iPhones, then. One just for media. Otherwise your phone's storage gets filled really quickly.

Phil, I don't listen to music much. Mostly podcasts. But the problem is the same. I also just found out that you write music. That sounds like a lot of fun.

Yeah, my workaround is having multiple iPods and multiple iTunes (excuse me, Music) libraries. Long flights and no good music = total hell on earth. At least now the noise-cancelling earbuds and all that stuff are affordable and reliable.
