  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

The Crop Factor Myth Explained

That film does not explain much but instead brings more dumb misconceptions to the discussion.

1. Long lenses does not compress the scenery of a shot. Distance to target does. A large format camera with the same framing as a small sensor with a wider lens giving both the same field of view... Well then they also give the exact same compression of the scene. The compression of the scene only increase / decrease if you move the camera nodal point forward or backwards into the scenery.

2. They dont take into account that when swapping to a smaller sensor you can also swap to a faster lens as a lens with smaller projection is possible to make faster than a lens built for a larger projection / larger sensor. Think how a speed booster works. The speed booster shortens the focal length and also speed up the lens so it get wider and faster by the factor of the booster and yes except for small oddies like possible vignetting, aromatic aberrations, and a little bit of light loss due to the extra glas it very much will give a very similar look as if the lens was used on a larger sensor but without the booster.
