Oh Man, this is really shocking, I was a firefighter for the last 15 years and can tell you than in 2003 the hell came out to Portugal, wildfires everywhere, and the days become night, this images really represent what I’ve been trough in 2003, I spend 3 consecutive weeks trying to put out the fires, so I'm extremely conscious of what those people in the images where thinking and have feeling.

Neale..

I find myself harking back to the days of BBC journalism.. Those are truly shocking images.... and yet at the same time, beautiful images of life at the edge...
it is no consolation but its those sort of quality images that got photo-journalists awards/commendations after WW2.

moved.... perhaps the only words, Sir!

Yes the whole country is in the grip of extreme heat with more to come .It's not that we are not used to it in the land down under, quite the contrary, living here firestorms are part of the landscape, but every now when everything comes together to take these fires to another level I think the whole country holds it's breath.Mostly we dodged a bullet, fingers crossed that continues. It's 12.20 AM here and 35 celsius still

This is the type of pics who brake my heart, thinking about all the slow fellow trap by the fire and the wind and didn't have the luck to meet a fireman.

2009 in Australia
