  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

THE CLUTCH

Given the size of the camera, moving it much further back will bring the lens next to your face. I just tried hanging a v-mount battery off the back of the clutch, and balanced very well.
Well owning 5 Epic's I have to agree with Jarek. Best place is on top of the shoulder as it's very lens heavy. The trick is to be able to balance it on your shoulder ( a slight push forward or back possibility) and to make it as close to the shoulder as possible (as if you thrower the camera up on a sweater - kind of - you get the idea - so it's not elevated to high on your shoulder). We are going to deliver that solution with our rig - as well as having shoulder adjustment by swivelling the shoulder pad AND still having the lens in eye line (making the quick release platform half the thickness of the usual. Best of is that our solution WILL allow to quickly (matter of seconds) have the shoulder pad in a configuration ANYWHERE behind the camera with the battery as a counter balance (still with shoulder adjustment and forward/backwards adjustment on the SH pad itself)

And for none Epic/Scarlet owners (at least yet) - you don't really realise this yet, but these cameras are INCREDIBLY small. So what I'm talking about is not something that you just come up with - this is serious designing and 1000 of hours of learning/thinking of the design from experience.

Got the clutch today... must say that we are very impressed, it's quite a bit of money but already while you get trough the Unboxing phase it's very understandable. It's like a murder weapon from some futuristic film, it's like a CNC sculpture. Nothing saved on any of the parts. Somebody at read had quite a bit of time to design this bit of gear... Hard to explain but the the pictures in the web shop does not bring it justice... And I almost forgot, it lays on the shoulder so well so you have no problem of letting go with both hands even. The cut foam fitted snuggly into one of our pelicans... now called the assault case.. :)

Still looking very forward to seeing what you have for us Fredrik!

Which size Pelican case is that?

Hi Guys,

We're ready to show some stuff tomorrow. First of will be the lite version. Same features, same clever design, just no quick release on the bones - for those who are content with rosette system. Pro version will follow.

looking forward to it! by tomorrow i hope you mean midnight! :wink5:

Fredrik, gotta say that looks amazing. Can't wait to see the price!

The clutch arrived today and here's a quick first impression review. First, it's expensive. Coming from the ET Mantis, it's a huge price leap but I must admit that I do like the clutch better. It solves little problems that I had with the Mantis. First, if I wanted to adjust anything on the camera or shoulder mount, I needed three hands. The clutch now lets me make minor tweaks on the shoulder. Secondly, it is MUCH more stable, by a large degree. Since it sits so much lower than the R1 on a Mantis, it's not a fair comparison between the two. The Epic is now where I wanted the camera to be all along. Finally, the pads are denser than the Mantis, which could become an issue on long days. So it's a great piece of gear, but at a steep price. My first new car, a Toyota, cost a tad more at $5,600.00 back in 1976. However, I'll admit it was harder to put on my shoulder than either of these two rigs and not nearly as comfortable.

OK, so for clutch owners out there, how does one keep the front pad from rotating? I've clamped it down as tight as possible and still get some rotation. Since it only has the one clamp on the rod, the entire rod is rotating along with the pad. I tried swapping the back 19mm universal mount from the back pad to up front behind the DSMC mount and that seemed to help, but that means I'd have to buy another one to make the fix permanent. Or is there some trick that I'm not seeing here?

Can you somehow mount the Epic underslung for a lower camera position lower gravity point?
Can you mount the frontsection of the Clutch upside-down and put the camera plate on top of a top plate on the Epic?

Eureka! I think I've solved the rotating front pad issue. The problem: the front pad can rotate due to its being only held on by a clamp to the rod which doesn't have enough resistance to keep it from spinning. The back pad is solid because it's constructed differently. So how to make the front pad like the back pad. Answer: attach it to the bottom plate of the DSMC mount. Simple, clean and adjustable fore and aft by sliding the dovetail plate. No more rotation, now rock solid. Had to buy an extra bit, the accessory attachment bracket, to make it work.

Have you used this configuration with R1 or only epic
