Scarlet-W brains will supposedly start shipping in a week or so. The problem is, for those of us who went a la carte, things are about to get a little tricky.

My bombsquad rep has told me that accessories will be processed separately from the cameras, and will not ship at the same time. For those who ordered modules and monitors, there may be some down time between shipments.

Personally I was holding out for an OMOD since it was slated to ship before the cameras, however those are now delayed till the end of March or later. I just tried to get my rep to add a V-Mount Expander to my order, but now I'm stuck at the end of the line up for those. They ship in March, which means I'm likely looking April before I get one. Clearly that whole plan backfired in my face.

I could opt for a 3rd party battery plate, but that leaves me with no I/O for my SmallHD or remote focus pulling.

So as it stands, in a few weeks I'll have an $11k paperweight sitting on my desk for what could be as long as a few months.

What are you Scarlet-W brain owners doing to solve this dilemma? Any suggestions?

thats why i didnt care that the scarlet shipped earlier then weapon, i was one of the firsts to order the v-lock expander ala cart on basically the moment they were at the red store, though that omod one looks great, now im worried ill be forced to buy the red one before that one comes out, ohhhhh dilemmas!

you can get the jetpack or a base expander though, those are available now!

I got on the list for both the base I/O and base I/O v-lock. I think it sounded like the base I/O might be able to ship around the time the camera does. I have jobs lined up in march that I want to get the scarlet on. If the expanders take too long I have a buddy with an extra redvolt expander I will use untill mine comes. It's stressful I know...

I might go the jetpack expander route for a little bit until the v-mount expander ships

Almost went this route until my rep advised me against it but now it looks like i'm stuck with a 5" monitor.

If anyone is looking to buy a DSMC2 5" touch I will most likely post it on here when it arrives.

let me know immediately, i want the 4.7 inch and im in LA.

Anyone in here want to buy my redvolt XL module? I'll be getting my weapon in a week or so and looking to offload it so I can get a V-mount expander down the road.

I'm in the same boat Nathan. If it makes you feel any better, I ordered my Raven Brain in January and all the modules a la carte just last week .

I'm right there with you, Nathan... Depending on how desperate you get, you could add a Jet Pack, then run your signal out to a SmallHD (or transmitter) via HDMI... then power the brain using a V-Lock belt clip. Not the most sexy setup, but it at least gets you running. If you have sound, then record to an external unit and sync in post. Plus, the V-Lock belt clip and Jet Pack might come in handy down the line.

It's so ridiculous that RED can't manage its supply chain in a way that allows it to ship needed "Accesories" for its own cameras. I/O and power are kinda necessary ;) Surely modules and battery plates are easier to design and make than cameras.

Same here, Ordered Raven within a few hours of announcement. Have been hanging out waiting to see what 3rd party modules come out. Guess I should I ordered it as soon as it was announced, I guess I was thinking they would be more then ready for when my camera was ready to ship. Hmmm

I'm in the same boat as well, I didn't realize that there was such a wait or short supply for the I/O V-Lock expander when I ordered the brain only for my Raven the first day orders opened up. I guess I thought that by the time the Raven starts shipping they would have plenty of those modules to pick up around the same time.. It's a pretty critical component, how else are you supposed to get it working like a real cinema camera without even an SDI out?

Does anyone know if the I/O Base Expander is available now, or is there a long wait similar to the I/O V-Lock Expander?

This is what I'm doing. Jetpack is available now. I will be using a belt clip V-mount plate that I can also attach to rods.

Regarding the proposed jetpack solution, I'm afraid that a lot of people will be going that route temporarily, which could result in the forum being flooded with used (and potentially unsellable) jetpacks.

It's clearly not an ideal solution, and the lack of SDI doesnt help either, but it seems to be about the only option at this point. :/

look on the bright side. gonna have some of the FIRST scarlet-w's out. and it's hard for me to believe they won't have at least the Base I/O minus the V-lock available for those of us who just wanted the brain

After having a lengthy chat with my rep, I opted out of the Scarlet-W package because it would have delayed the shipping. Now I only have the brain coming and debating accessories options.

I appreciate all who are posting their workarounds until 3rd party gear is released for the Scarlet-W.

Yeah, it's too bad the SDI version of the Jetpack module isn't available yet. I guess you could always use a mini HDMI to SDI converter. I'm just using the Paralinx Arrow+ for now which only has HDMI anyway. The Jetpack module is actually everything I need for my current Ronin gimbal setup.
