  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

TERADEK Cube/Bundle - Group Buy!

Nicol, one more question ( I already ordered) when using the wifi HDSDI bundle can I use the encoder/decoder for the HDSDI out on a SDI monitor and use an Ipad at the same time ?
How many ipads/monitors can have an image at the same time ? Ideally I have this set up; 1 for dailies and recording on a laptop, 1 for a videovillage/HDSDI monitor and 1 for a directors monitor (ipad)

cheers

Ketch,

You might want to call Teradek directly, or open a discussion on their forums. My understanding is that streaming to multiple devices will complicate the issue, requiring more hardware (multicast capable WiFi access-points), as well as some potential caveats in how data is streamed to Laptops (RTP) vs iPads (HTTP), which may cause some conflicts.

I hope to eventually do this as well, so I'm curious what you find out... That said, I trust Nicol and Co, to do whatever they can to make this work, and I've got the luxury to wait a while for it to happen, using basic point-to-point streaming in the meantime.

Jacek, Ketch;

Quite simply, the device converts HD-SDI to H.264 and streams it over Ethernet/WiFi at a configurable data rate. So, Jacek, the minimum requirement to stream a single camera is an encoder, a power cable, and HD-SDI cable.

However, "how to view that stream?" is an much broader question... If you get a decoder, its simply a wireless video sender/receiver. You plug one into a camera, the other into a monitor, pair them, and go on your merry way, untethered.

But, if you want to stream to an iphone, or an ipad, or a laptop, or a tablet, or a DIT station, or who knows what, the question get much more complex. It just depends on your specific scenario and intent.

I bought the WiFi bundle because it will work for traditional situations where I want to keep things simple, and without cords. But if I have a production that wants to try and "be cool" with iphones and ipad, and is willing to take the risk to "try it out", I can accomodate that too.

You might also want to check out the Cube forums, I think I saw a user manual there, as well some some specific technical questions. http://forum.teamvideocube.com/
Kyle,
I know what it's supposed to do(and does). I beta tested it.
I think that everyone will benefit from knowing what the minimum system requirements are because that has not been answered straight.
I'm not talking about decoder IMO other that in some very special situations it just cripples this product..
So Here are my questions:
For single terminal streaming what works smoothly and at what data rate?
Windows laptop please...
What off shelf stream capture software works with it if any. I mean stable, hiccup free recording:confused1:
Nicol?

Just ordered 1 set CUBE 120/320 HD-SDI Encoder/Decoder
might going to help a friend order 1 set, just wondering can we extend longer times for the group buy expriry date?

Cheers

does the bundle come w/ wall wart AC power and dtap to lemo to power cable to power off camera or anton batt? web site does not state what cables it comes with. I will order a bundle today just need to know what it comes with so its ready to work when it arrives at the camera house. Also, when will these babies ship?!

thanks

Dammit, I so want one, such an exciting product and I hate to miss out on a bargain but I can't really seem to justify it as a personal purchase especially since we will have 4 of them at Brownian Motion in Pinewood where I freelance as a DIT.

We were testing with one the other day and once it was setup and configured it worked great. It felt like seeing the future there as we watched the recorded streams from the camera appear in a folder via wifi and stood there with a number of ipads immediately reviewing the rushes and browsing independently through the clips we had just shot - comparing different takes side by side across 2 iPads.
Range was fairly impressive too, easily big enough for inside a large studio. I can't wait till LightIron's Liveplay app comes out to really make good on all the potential that this setup hints at - check out the video here : http://lightirondigital.com/LightIRON_Digital/LIGHTIRON_OUTPOST_2.html

I think these will become standard on set for red shoots pretty quickly.
One of our guys took a setup (Cube 120, router on DIT station and a couple of iPads) out to trial with some clients and they were using them very happily, then something happened and they couldn't use them anymore and they were very frustrated and demanded them back up and working ASAP! Like all the best tools they just make life easier and you really miss them when you don't have them.

We're at 44...
If we can get a little closer to 50 I can try to convince Teradek to give the 50 unit discount.
not trying to push people into buying just want to get everyone the best discount possible.

Again, if you are having any ordering issues please email: info@teradek.com so they can get you sorted out.

Teradek is a west coast US company so Midnight is 8.5hrs away til end of sale.

thanks everyone,
Jason

Jason,

I'll be ordering at least 1 encoder tonight. (Am currently offsite, unsecured workstation)

Had been hoping that Nichole would have been able to give some insight on a question I had posed about decoders last night - without that, I may need to stick with just the encoder side for now.

Someone else asked about how many iPads could be receiving WiFi from a single 120 encoder - I would like to mirror that question: does anyone have an answer?

Thanks for putting this together.

Okay going to order right now, however I think that with the Cube for Wireless we should be okay for both of our first Epic cameras.

But just to confirm, is this one the one I need? http://store.teradek.com/cube120-1ch-hdsdi-encoder-built-in-1201.html

what cables, help out Jason so we can do this ;)

Ketch, that's the encoder that I think we're pretty much all looking at.

Re: cables: you've got two options (in my mind at least). The power tap cable or the RED lemo cable. I currently do not know if Epics have a lemo power port (like the 2 ports on the RED one). If you cannot determine whether an Epic has a lemo port on the brain itself or only on one of i/o modules than I would get power tap cables. If you can determine that the Epic brain and/or i/o modules have lemo power ports, then I would probably get the RED lemo power cables.

I would get the shortest ones that they make (my opinion).

Hope that helps.

Regards,
Paul Engstrom
