Hello all,

So I noticed that on B&H, the Teradek 500 is at a $600 discount for $2,390.00. This deal expires tomorrow at 11:59PM. I'm guessing they are doing this because of the introduction of the newest version of this at NAB 2018, the 500 XT/LT.

My question is: Should I go with the deal and get the Teradek 500 for the discount price ($2,390.00), or should I pre-order the newest version (price: $2,490.00) which is only $100 more? Unless I am missing something, it seems weird for the 500 to go back to $2,990.00 when the newest XT version is priced at $2,490.00.

I'd love for someone to make a chart showing what they are actually ugprading with these annual refreshes. Seems not a ton has changed in the last few iterations.

My understanding is that the new XT line has a built-in spectrum analyser that shows which channels are most congested. I think this is a killer feature, I'm going for the 500XT personally.

The 500 won't go back to $2990. There may or may not be a sale on the current Bolt 500 in the coming weeks.

However, if you're in a rush, this product is still a great choice. Its compatible with the XT and the LT and includes the same software features as the XT.

We're working on this now. In general, the XT and LT are more of a form and function upgrade compared to the current system: better orientation and mounting options (NATO rail, 3/8" pin-lock, 1/4"-20), integrated pass-through battery plates on TX and RX, an additional SDI output on the RX, lighter and smaller form factors, and if you go with the 500, you'll get external antennas on the TX. Plus, the XT and LT are compatible with the current gen Bolt.

Awesome! Thank you Mike for clarifying this between the 500 and 500XT/LT.

That sale that may or may not happen, it is for the 500 and not the 500XT/LT, correct?

And I am in no rush, so right now I'm leaning towards the XT version of the 500. Or unless that sale happens. :)

No problem. Nope, no sale on the new Bolt products - just the original 500 is a possibility.

Cool. Thank you again Mike.

I have to make some decisions then. But they are good decisions, as I know I will be happy with either 500 versions.

Hey Mike, I've been trying to find a picture of the back of the 500 XT receiver, the specs say it has a dual LPE6/NPF battery plate. Also, it doesn't look like the 500 XT receiver has the NATO rail integrated in the body like the 1000 and 3000 do. I was trying to get my hands on a 500XT Rx on the floor at NAB and couldn't find one.

The 500 XT receiver doesn't look like the others. It has internal antennas and is a little taller. We don't have photos with battery plates on just yet (we got the units just a few days before the show!).

The 500 does not have a NATO rail like the 1000/3000, unfortunately.

Ill shoot you over some photos as soon as we get some new ones with the batt plates installed.

Gotcha, that's a bummer to hear. Seems like the 500 XT lacks some of the new "XT Line" features like pass-through battery and NATO rail. I feel like I need to check and make sure it actually has the spectrum analyzer, too! (it does, right?) And I realized that the previous 500 model has the 3D LUT feature, I had missed that detail... I might be more on the fence about grabbing the old model than I thought I was. I just don't think I need 1000ft, so as much as I love the XT features like NATO and pass-through battery plates, it's a big monetary jump.

Are there any major differences I'm not noticing between the previous Bolt 500 and the 500 XT? External antennas, spectrum analyzer, and extra SDI out on Rx are the ones I noticed.

Ya, the 500 XT board is quite a bit different than the 1000 and 3000 XT systems so the design had to change. Trust me, if we could keep them all in the same chassis we would...

The current Bolt 500 and the 500 XT both have our software utilities: 3D LUTs and the 5GHz Spectrum Analyzer. They do not have Manual Channel Selection (only available on 1000 and 3000).

With regard to differences between the two 500 models: XT gives you external antennas on the TX, an additional SDI output (for a total of 2), smaller/lighter chassis, and battery plates with internal wiring.

Will Teradek be promoting the sale that may happen? I want to make sure I don't miss it, as it looks like the 500 Bolt went back to regular price ($2,990.00).
